high school is a scary beast
It’s taken a semester spent with 5th graders to convince myself that I could handle middle school as it is. Even though 5th grade is a thousand times and ways different from 8th grade.

true....
our seniors are great athletes….
our juniors are “coach killers”….
our sophomores are unathletic….
our freshman are really lazy….
our 8th graders have one stud and nothing else….
our 7th graders are athletic….
our 6th graders are unbelievable bad (behavior and athletics)

I teach 5th grade
and want 6th or 7th grade. Just being patient and looking for a good job to come open. I can’t go below 5th grade, but have zero interest in teaching high school. Coaching them isn’t bad, can always threaten them with running and playing time. Plus, the kids out for sports aren’t the major problems in the classroom (most of the time).
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.
I'm in a math internship right now in a 5th grade class
those kids freaking love me and I’m planning on going in until the end of their school year. They understand sarcasm and jokes much better than the younger kids I know…it’s a bit refreshing.

That's what I loved about 6th grade.

either that or an internship opportunity with the KC school district
16k for the first year (including student teaching semester), free housing, payment of your last semester, they give you your own class off the bat, and 32k the next year. It’s a 2 year requirement and would be tough but seems a bit worth it in my opinion.

Yeah, could be.
A lot of that depends on the principal of the building. I did some work in 3 schools in KCK, 2 were great. Had great principals, one was unbelievably shitty with an unbelievably shitty principal. I honestly would not recommend that for a new teacher. It’s basically a mission trip.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

Which afford me the ability to have a little more respect with the kids and the staff. Of course, that only lasts as long as we are winning!

Plus the drop in numbers allowed us to go to 6 man football, where we were State Runner-up in our 1st season!

true,
I’m used to thinking of Kansas schools. The schools in KS that size are all out west and they are shrinking fast. There are a few districts K-12 that have 125 students. Great teaching can take place in those schools, but with the funding set up here, they won’t be able to stay open.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

I enjoy it....
it’s worked out well so far. With math certification, you’re pretty secure to always have a job somewhere. I’ve just been in one place so far….but it’s gone well. I was a PE major who just took the math PRAXIS, so it took a while to get back in the hang of math, but I really enjoy it now.
We’ve got a really diverse population of students in our district, so you get a real “melting pot” type of feeling sometimes. But I love the 8th graders (for the most part)……young enough that they aren’t “too cool” for you, but their old enough that you can have real conversations with most of them. My first year I had a veteran teacher tell me that the first year she did middle school she thought “what did I get myself into?”…but after a couple years, she thought it was the best place to be. I’d probably agree with that statement.

how are we even on the trade for Coco?
good/great reliever vs. starting centerfielder with an OPS of around .960? Still early in the season, sure, but Coco is walking a lot more than before (think his OBP hovering around .380 despite only hitting around .220). And since he’s a switch hitter, you don’t have to worry (as much) about platoon splits and pitching matchups, something that is very valuable for a team like the Royals that is now suffering injuries to two of its better hitters.

Saw it. Could be.
I know they need a different/special broadcast truck for HD games. But if they went to the trouble to bring all the HD cameras and equipment and truck on the road for one game, why wouldn’t they just do all the games in HD? Or better yet, just do all the HOME games in HD and never have to bother bringing the HD stuff on the road at all?

From here on out, the Royals will average 12 runs scored in every game and obliterate all MLB offensive records. Dayton will re-sign any potential free agents, make no moves in the offseason, and the rest of the league will just forfeit the 2010 season. You heard it here first.

Verlander had a perfect game going into the 5th.
Double, single, single, sac bunt, grounder to 3rd that is bobbled by the catcher (runner scores, no one out), push bunt, hit-and-run single.
