An extra Poop Sandwich
Trey's words:
"We certainly want to give him another opportunity to start," Hillman said. "But it was a combination of getting Horacio in at the right time and giving everybody an extra day."
The Royals could have avoided using Ramirez — or any fifth starter — until Saturday by keeping everyone on his standard four days of rest between appearances.
Instead, Gil Meche, Zack Greinke and Kyle Davies will each be pushed back one day. Sidney Ponson will get an extra day of rest, because of an open date Monday, before starting the series opener Tuesday in Cleveland.
"We feel it gives everybody a chance to catch their breath a little bit," Hillman said, "and it (lets us) take care of what has been a pretty good rotation so far."
Trey is giving Horacio an extra start on Wednesday to give the other starters an extra rest. . . against a division foe! So now, instead of eating a HoRam Special once in the before May, we'll get him three times! (Assuming he makes it to his next start after that. And, while I can't fault Hillman for the rainout, I can fault him for putting him in the rotation to begin with.)
And this isn't just any division foe, it's the pre-season favorite, the Cleveland club that just hung up 14 runs in one inning against another struggling groundball pitcher. I'm putting the over/under of outs Ramirez gets before being pulled at 5.5 and the ER charged to him at 5.5. So who wants to bet he makes it through 2 innings, and who thinks he'll give up fewer than 6 runs? Oh, and if he bombs and our bullpen is subsequently spent, there isn't another off-day until May 11th.
Recap of problems:
1.) HoRam gets an extra start.
2.) It's against a division foe, so a loss counts as double
3.) If he kills the bullpen, there isn't another off-day for 20 days!
Brilliant!

He'll come out and dominate.
Just relax. We’ll see what happens. He’s struggled so he’s going to try even harder to make a good impression. We’ll see what happens.

what makes you say that?
HoRam sucked in ST and he has sucked so far this season. He hasn’t been effective as a starter in years. There is no logical reason to assume he will turn it around now.
I could potentially see giving Meche an extra day of rest, since his pitches seemed to have lost a little gas during his last outing, but that is about it. I really hope this isn’t about tending to HoRam’s ego or anything like that—he has done absolutely nothing to earn a spot in a rotation this good.

it's a decision to start an inferior pitcher
to get the other 4 an extra day of rest. of course fans are going to think it’s a bad move—it decreases the chances that we’ll win that game. it’s also early in the season and it’d be nice to keep everyone as healthy and fresh as possible. it’s not a bad decision. it just hurts our chances to win that particular game.

I don't disagree with making sure the others are healthy
But, MAN, it doesn’t have to be HoRam

Hmmmm 7-1 with MGD
and 0-3 with Ponson and Ramirez. And 5 of 9 batters faced by Ramirez as a reliever have reached base. This is his final start. Hochevar will be called up if this is a bomb, and HoRam will be released. That should be enough time to keep Hoch under the service time stuff going on.

can we please just use jamey wright?
he seems to be the best option if dayton wants to keep bannister and hochevar in the minors. i also think he’d give us a fighting chance.
i’m telling myself this is the last time ramirez is going to pitch for us. there’s just no way he can stay on the team pitching this poorly.

Again, I ask.
Are you serious? (I am seriously asking.)

Yes he serious..
this is the dumbest thing ive ever heard of.. Hmm using Gil Meche and Zack Greinke in the last 2 games of the series already puts you in a position to win the series even if you lose the first game.. now you are in a position to lose with Ponson and HoRam.. just fucking stupid by hillman
Bloomquist. God? Or just an illusion? You be the judge.

Banny pulled from his start today after just two innings
Injury? Or is he getting the call?

I think if he were getting a call up, they wouldn't have started him at all

the more I think about it...
the more I’m worried that Hillman is somehow convinced that he is managing Little League, where everybody has to get a chance to pitch or hit.

Unfortunately, Trey forgot to lock the cooler
and Sidney ate all of these while the other guys were doing postgame interviews:
