With non-roster right-hander Jamey Wright's deadline for making the Major League roster extended, his spot in the bullpen looks secure.
"We like Jamey," Hillman said. "He brings a lot to the table. He can throw multiple innings, he's a ground-ball guy, he brings great character, he's experienced. We like him."

Interesting
The projections like him as a low leverage middle reliever. I wonder who the odd man out will be.

don't unpack yet, Mr. Cruz!

Pfft.
Obviously, they’ve decided that they need to send that Soria guy down to build some confidence.
This space for rent.
He has options remaining

It's a lesson
Dayton Moore made him, and he can take it all away in a second.
After Gload left, the young guys are strutting around, acting like they own the place.
It’s about humility and knowing one’s role.

And it tells the players that they have to earn their roster spots in spring training
Soria just hasn’t gotten it done this spring.

Plus, it will save some service time...
and get that extra year of control.

Interesting
Trading a pitcher for a position player? Assuming it is not a major trade involving a regular (which is pretty uncommon at this time of year), then I wonder which hole he would trying to fill. Utility infielder (knocking TPJ out of contention for a roster spot)? A bat off the bench (probably knocking Shealy off the roster)?

Who would we be actively
trying to, and able to move that has decent return value?
Mahay is the first that comes to mind, but then we are void of a LH (except Bale if/when he decides to stay healthy for any extended period of time) in the pen.
Tejada might have regained SOME value by being effective w/ a high K/9 out of the pen last year, but he’s also our most obvious long relief guy. But that is who I think it may be…Tejada’s role could be filled by Duckworth possibly…
BOOM! ROASTED!
mahay has value
but I wonder if the Royals could get enough back to justify the salary they’d have to eat?

Maybe it's Wright?
Or Tejeda…. ?
With Peralta out, does that change anything?
Everyone's recruits look better than ours.
with Peralta out we are still basically
have three extra relievers who are out of options/and or have outs in thier contracts. Bale is on the DL, and HoRam is a starter for now, which leaves one more person that has to go now, and likely 1 or even two more that will have to go eventually. So we have two relievers, Shealy or TPJ and an extra catcher to trade. DM must be looking for at least one trade, maybe more so that he doesn’t just have to give up all those players to the waiver wire. The relivers and catcher being the most valuable, he needs to trade 3 players in the next few days/month. I would think that Callaspo may be on the trade block as well as he does not have as much value as the Royals could bring up one of thier plethora of 4th outfielders or TPJ if Teahen and Bloomy have 2B covered.
Go Royals!
I think Wright could be decent in the pen
Nice sinkerballer. But I don’t know if I’d take him over Waechter. Wasn’t Waechter pretty solid last year?

Waechter was solid last year
It’s just that it was his first and only year as a reliever, so we don’t really know if we can expect that from him going forward. And he had some BABIP luck and HR/FB luck.

Right
I know he’s no sure thing, just seems like he’s a heckuva lot more likely to be decent than Wright.

I think it is a toss-up
The projections like Wright more than Waechter (both CHONE and ZiPS project him to have a FIP under 4.40). Of course Waecther’s projection includes a lot of starting time, but so does Wright’s.
