He deserves credit for going to Fangraphs

seeing “O-Swing%”, and rather than leaving the site and calling it stupid, looking it up in the glossary and figuring out that this is useful information. Kudos.

true

that came off harsher than I meant it. I was referring to his offseason post about how it was BS and there was no way to “know” that Aviles would regress.

As bad as Aviles has been, he’s still been slighlty better or about the same as TPJ was allowed to be for what, two months last season? 3 weeks doesn’t mean much. PrOPS isn’t perfect, and even so, it doesn’t love Aviles at .592 PrOPS, but that does indicate a lot of bad luck.

There aren’t any better options that I know of.

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.

d_f, you are right on

I’m quite worried that Mellinger brought this up because I fear it also reflects the fearful thinking of Treyton and that they’re going to react somehow and it won’t be a good thing. Given how hard they tried to move Aviles to 2B during the offseason, it’s pretty clear they still don’t believe in Aviles. After all, he still has the “wrong” body type, right? I think they still believe TPJ should be there and just need a “reason” to do it.

But, to reiterate, you are right. They better give him at least as much time as they gave TPJ last year – Aviles deserves even more time than he did.

Seems like he has a huge step in the bucket

I don’t recall him being quite that exaggerated last year in his swing.

And we have a much better option waiting in the wings. After all, Aviles is only playing to let Tony Pena Jr. “get his head on straight.”

I agree with the stepping in the bucket

his feet are going all over the place before and during his swing.

“get his head on straight”? how about get his head out?

"Dear Mike"

“I noticed you are pulling your hips out too early during your swing. I’d be happy to meet you at the batting cage tomorrow to discuss it. Signed, Annie”

“Well if anyone would know you were pulling your hips out early it’d be Annie.”
