"I don’t know why there were so many people here today," Greinke said. "I know it was fireworks night, and I guess there was a (Buck Night) giveaway."

You'll have to forgive him
he’s not used to fans coming to see the Royals actually play baseball.

I think the next quote is just as good:
"But still, the Royals have come a long way selling out a game against the Tigers. The last couple of years, that wouldn’t have happened, no matter what they were giving away."
Classic Zack honesty.
WTF, self?

I went friday night
i had a voucher for a free seat in the view level… that i didn’t get to use. traffic was backed up I-435 two miles, i parked in the next to last row of the last parking lot on the far side of arrowhead(!). by the time i got thru the ticket line, the only single seat they had left was in section 141, which was a bit more than i planned on paying, but they already had me on the parking so i ponied up and sat in the eleventh row just past the dugout on the third base line. at the bottom of the 8th, it looked like freaking opening day. all about zack.

Don't kid yourselves, people
Take if from someone who pays close attention to the attendance:
They were mostly there for the buck night. Saturday, they were almost exclusively there for the jersey giveaway. Proof was in Sunday’s attendance – 13,500. FREAKING PATHETIC.
Looking for a way to prove me wrong? Well, Greinke pitches again Wednesday. Compare Wednesday attendance to Monday and Thursday, and you might have a reasonable estimate of how many true fans actually came out to see Zack pitch, because there is no substantial giveaways during the Toronto series, other than T-Shirt Tuesday. In fact, I’m predicting this right here and now:
Tuesday will have a HIGHER attendance than Wednesday, because a freaking free T-Shirt appeals to our pathetic fanbase more than watching potential true greatness.
Sorry for the bitterness – just posting my honest thoughts after observing crowd attendance tendancies over the last 30 years.

I doubt there are that many players who attract more fans, to be fair
Some of BIll James more famous “early” pieces, I think, were debunking the “Nolan Ryan bring sin thousands every night by himself!” myth.
