Around SBN: Why We're Skeptical Of LeBron James

I was looking around on our MiLB players tonight... interesting stat on Hosmer that bears watching albeit small sample...

10 K's in 17 ABs vs. LHP.

I know it's development time, but that seems like a lot!

It's still very early

he had two hits and a BB yesterday one of the hits was off a lefty. Moose had a very similar slow start last year.

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

Move him to catcher!

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.

You're the HS, coach, right?

you know as well as anyone the uneven competition he’s used to facing. He’s probably just seeing some things he hasn’t seen before from pitchers. There are probably a fair number of league repeaters, college guys, etc.who have speed and control that he’s not used to or something.

yes I am

But Hosmer was playing elite summer ball even traveling to another state to play on a specific team. He was facing the best of the best which is just as good as he facing now. I remember when I went and played college ball that some of the pitchers I faced as a hitter where not good compared to the guys I faced in summer baseball. It was amazing to me.

That being said, I’m sure he’s pressing. He had 8 BB/8 K vs. RHP, and 0 BB/10 K vs LHP. I was somewhat worried about it. I know it’s early, and it’s cold for the warmblooded kid, but I want production! :)

#2 pick Pedro Alvarez's start

.217/.342/.383 through 60 at-bats. He’s struck out 18 times but has balanced it with 13 walks.

If Alvarez is struggling after 3 years of college ball then it is reasonable to think that Hosmer could struggle at the start of his season.

Florida kid playing in colder weather than he probably has at anytime in his high school days. I’ve heard that even with his struggles the pitchers are still working him away and around him. If that is true it sounds like he is probably pressing trying to make something happen like Moose did last year in April.

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

This was kind of what I thought as well...

then I dug deeper… the RHP gave up 8 BB/8 K, the LHP gave up 0 BB/10 K…. I am worried about the splits.
