Game 19 Open Thread - Blue Jays (14-6) at Royals (9-9)
Toronto Blue Jays at Kansas City Royals, Apr 27, 2009 8:10 PM EDT
The Blue Jays haven't played anyone. Do the Royals count as someone? I don't know.
Your starter tonight is Brian Bannister.
Bannister looks like an 80s leading man to me. Witty, but you know he can also handle a gun or win a fistfight. Like the guy from Simon & Simon.

No Maier, DDJ, or Jacobs
are we trying to get no-hit?
I just saw the lineup
I’m giving this one a miss I think.

All I can say is that we’re facing a lefty (again) tonight. So, my guess is that Hillman is loading all of the right handed bats we have into the lineup. Our only lefty tonight is Teahen. Anyway, it still doesn’t look that great.

Over/under on the number of my residents (out of 80)
who actually show up to tonight’s mandatory floor meeting?
I’m gonna be pissed if I have to skip watching part of the game if fewer than 55 show up.
WTF, self?
Yikes, I hope not.
I’m trying to lure them with free root beer floats, but we’ll see. Also, the other RA on my floor expects me to buy all the ice cream and root beer, and carry it up here…but I can’t lift more than like 10 pounds with my right arm. Should be fun.

This is a big game
We need to avoid getting into a losing streak, which is exactly what we would have if we lose tonight. We also need to stay within a game of the AL Central lead, in my opinion, to give this young team the confidence to believe they can contend for a title, whether this year or in the future. Staying in contention also means more fans in the seats and more national exposure for the organization. Zack’s SI cover is a great start to people realizing that not only do we actually still have a MLB team in Kansas City, but that we have talent. I watched the highlights of the ’85 World Series today on MLB Network, and long for the days where I can experience that kind of excitement and success in KC! So basically, the future of the franchise rests on the shoulders of Banny and Willie B! Ok, maybe it is not quite that dramatic but in my mind tonight is a must win.

i know everybody here treats guillen like he's the worst player who's ever lived
but last year was easily his worst season ever, and it wouldn’t be beyond belief for him to have a bounceback season
realistically speaking
its just that...
most admitted steroid users never had a rebound season

Easy inning for Brian bannister

Just flipped over to Texas-Baltimore
They were doing a scoreboard watch.
Some announcer: “Those Royals can pitch”.
Then he went on to say something about Bannister. Pretty cool to here praise from outside of KC.
Yeah
Somewhat related: it’s fun to correct non-baseball-fans when they laugh about me liking the Royals. “Pssst… you won’t look smart making fun of the Royals anymore…”
That's my favorite game!
Here’s a fun exchange I had with a guy a while back:
Me: Oh, the Pirates. Who would I kick around if not for them?
Idiot guy who thinks he knows more about sports than I do because he’s a guy: the Royals…oh wait, you like them…sorry.
Me: This is your gentle reminder that there were TEN teams in the Majors with records worse than Kansas City’s last year. Ten, mothafucka.
Idiot guy: and yet if you were to ask the common man, they would still say the royals were the worst team in the majors
Me: …sigh.
These people…need to get a new joke.
WTF, self?
How has banny looked tonight?
Just tuned in a few minutes ago, looks like lots of walks, few K’s…has he been walking the typical banny-tightrope tonight? Good defense?
by RoyalsFanInBillings on Apr 27, 2009 9:51 PM EDT reply actions

lots of walks ,yet one hit, yeah
realistically speaking
When it works you're a genius

5 hits in 12 innings, 2 K’s? wow
realistically speaking
Is it even possible..
to hit it completely out of the K?

Anybody else think that Jose's 'shipment' came in and now all of a sudden he is feelin it?
Really? No, not really.
