Historical Royal Pitching WAR

Chone Smith has completed his WAR numbers for pititchers. I went ahead took the top 100 pitchers innings pitched for the Royals (link to Royal hitting WAR). I have made the data available on this Google Docs Page. Here are the top (and bottom) 10 for Royal's pitching for Individual Seasons, Career at Kansas City and Pitching Staff by Season. Enjoy and I will add all the pitchers at sometime as that time becomes available.

Rally went by an adjusted-for-defense RA, right, now FIP?

Along with Scott Elarton

Retro, - I have heard Win Shares really under values pitchers vice hitters. Appier is the second behind Brett in WAR, but 7 behind him in Win Shares. Any plans on updating/adjusting your list.

Yes!

I have been dying to have WAR figures for all these players, and thanks to you, here they are! Many, many thanks.

Yeah, but it has to be fake

WAR, wOBA, BaseRuns, defensive numbers and whatnot are all made up by a bunch of guys who wouldn’t know how to be a real winner together.

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.

Yes, that's nice

I was a bit surprised to see that the core 70’s years (76-80) were not in the top 10 pitching staffs by WAR. But, this chart fills in the story. Very interesting because my recollection would have been that even the Royals of that day were great pitching and defense and still sometimes struggled at batting/run production. I guess it’s more proper to say struggled with power hitting.

But, definitely that mid 80’s to mid 90’s was a pretty damn nice staff.

Thanks!

OK, got it.
