MLB's amateur draft is shifting to prime time.
"The commissioner's office said Tuesday that this year's draft will start at 6 p.m. on June 9 and be held at the studios of the MLB Network in Secaucus, N.J."
"There will be 111 picks on the first day, which includes the first three rounds mixed in with two compensation rounds."

i don't like this
the system was fine. it seems a little ridiculous to have three rounds one day followed by 47 the next. however, i don’t have the mlb network. i might feel different if i were able to watch analysis of the royals picks on tv.

Boo
I liked not working and following the draft.
I heard the NFL is thinking of spreading their draft over four days, starting Thursday night. I think that is just awful.

Not sure if you read him, but Gregg Easterbrook's (TMQ's) draft review column
started out with a lead-in about Roger Goodell actively seeking out the NFL’s “saturation point” with its fans/the public (spreading out the draft even further, going to an 18-game schedule, etc.)…and how that was a horrible idea.

I'll have to check that out
I like Easterbrook, and I was actually musing about that very topic – overexposure of the NFL.

I like that the MLB draft has become a public event, unlike what it used to be
But all of the major sport drafts are becoming too TV-ified, too drawn out and prepackaged.

NFL draft: most over-hyped sporting event of the year?
Or is that still the Superbowl?
Today, we are all Honkballers.

Most over-hyped and most boring
Many of the first round picks are interesting, but the 10 minute wait between picks is horribly boring. Beyond the first round it is a complete snooze-fest.

Every year I click over randomly and instantly become mesmerized by his hair

Cool
It will never match the greatness that is the NFL draft but I’ll definitely check it out.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

i prefer the NBA draft to the NFL.. mainly because its smaller and most people who watch it,
know everyone thats involved, atleast by name.

Last years draft day thread was the most fun I've had on the internet
that didn’t involve Kleenex

I think I like the idea
Now, they need to take it a few steps further to make it even better…
1) Allow the trading of draft picks. It makes no sense that this hasn’t been done yet.
2) Outlaw Major League Contracts for players drafted in the June Draft. This is not necessary, but it would lead to a higher % of players that actually sign their deals (I think).
3) World Draft. At least a "partial world’ draft, by allowing players that are over the age of 16 (or 18) and not under professional contract with another organization to be drafted. This would even the playing field out immensely.
BOOM! ROASTED!

Instead of outlawing MLB contracts
they should just slot the money they can possibly receive. It’s getting kind of ridiculous considering the bust rate in baseball.

But
No slotting has given us an advantage in the draft. We outspent everyone last year and nabbed some gems later in the draft because we were willing to overpay. Until other teams wise up, I’d like to keep that advantage.

Nothing but positive
Last year when it was on ESPN it was good to have footage and video of the guys getting drafted. I love the progression, from being broadcast on MLB Radio via a boring ass conference call to having a full blown event with analysis and video and I’m sure interviews is awesome!
