Magic numbers - end of April edition

Yeah, I know - it's really too soon to be thinking about this.  I just thought it'd be interesting to see where we stand after the 1st month.

Team followed by our magic number to eliminate said team:

  • Chicago - 141
  • Detroit - 141
  • Minnesota - 140
  • Cleveland - 137

The magic number is, of course, the number of Royals wins plus the other team's losses that would eliminate the other team (and eliminating all 4 would naturally mean we win the division).  Every team begins the year with the number at 163 to eliminate the opposing teams.

Obviously, games played within our own division count as "2" against that specific opponent.  So if we were to sweep Minnesota (for example) over the next 3 games, it would reduce our magic number (over the Twins) by 6 and by at least 3 over the other teams.  Also, it means a couple of those early games that we should have won over the White Sox and Indians hurt twice as much.
