ok, Royals decide on 24th spot.
Jimmy Wright makes the team in the 24th spot, the 7th reliever.
Still another spot because Ponson is starting in the minors until he starts the home opener, so B. Pena or S. Costa will be on the team to start the season.

The Royals are really just delaying the reliever problem.
They have 2 or even 3 extra relievers (if HoRam does not stick as the #5 starter)
I am still guessing that a trade is in the works for at least one reliever and a catcher.
I think a catcher gets traded and Costa makes the team for three glorious games.
Go Royals!

if they are going to really stick with Teahen at 2B
Costa should be on the roster, period. who is the 4th OF otherwise?

Teahen and Bloomquist
When needed, Teahen can go to the OF and Callaspo or Bloomquist can go to second base. It’s not like Teahen is going to be locked into starting at second base 160 games. At least that’s my read of the situation. He’ll get starts at second base, but more than a little PT in the OF as well.

I know Billy Buckner probably will never amount to much of anything
but, to dig up another dead horse — why trade for Alberto Callaspo and then do everything possible not to play him?

Good question
My thoughts:
1. Trading for a player does not necessitate making him a starter. It’s not like the Royals traded a major piece of talent for him. And just because a team trades for a prospect, that doesn’t mean they think he’s a future star who just needs some playing time to blossom.
2. He’s going to play. He’s likely to make some starts. The second base position is in flux and this will likely continue. It’s hard to say who will get the most starts at 2B this season. I think he’ll likely get 200+ PA’s. He may get 350+ PA’s.
3. The Royals have multiple years of team control remaining for Callaspo. He’ll get some PT this year; maybe he’ll get more next year. We don’t know if Teahen will be back or where he’ll be playing. Much can happen over the next few years.
In short, with Guillen in the OF, it makes sense to give Teahen significant playing time at second base. The Royals have a chance to develop a good overall player for that position in Teahen. Callaspo shouldn’t necessarily get 600 PA’s just because the Royals traded a so-so pitching prospect for him (Buckner looks more and more like a borderline 5th SP/middle reliever with every passing day). In short, Callaspo is a decent young player with some upside, but his upside doesn’t look very high to me or many others. He isn’t likely to ever be a good defensive 2B and he isn’t likely to ever be a good hitter. But he could definitely be a decent defender and decent hitter for the position. That’s nothing to get excited about, nor is he someone you make sure is in your lineup everyday. If it works out, it works out. But if you think you’ve got a better option, go for it.

Callaspo
profiled alot better as a prospect than he currently is playing. He showed alot more pop in the minors. Thank you West PCL, with his current power he is gonna have to be a .300+ hitter just to be average offensively at 2b and average isn’t good enough with his defense and less than stellar personal track record.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

He has bounced around a couple of organizations now
I do wonder about his ’tude. Still, play the kid.

Reds released Gomes
he would be a decent OF to pickup in Omaha if Costa is released.

For sure
but I think someone will give him a split deal or something to be their 4thOF/DH/platoon guy
Always liked him, even though he seems like kind of a jerk.
