"Honestly," he says, "sometimes I think I’m a little too dumb to even worry about it."

This.
Trey Hillman all but dismissed him, saying "that Mike Aviles thing didn’t really work out."

This is the epitomy of the stupidity of the Royals and traditional baseball. Many general fans like us would have made a smarter decision than this last year. I believe that most fans thought that they should put in Aviles and let it play out. That’s truly the only way to see if he could perform. I think most fans are smart enough to know that 1 game does not prove anything. But, the Royals were so into “body type” that actual performance numbers didn’t matter. Except for 1 game’s worth in the majors – then they counted for everything.

If it is true that DM doesn’t understand or even look at any advanced stats as has been reported by his contemporaries in Atlanta, then these kind of blind bonehead moves will continue. I’m no expert at these stats at all and have never claimed to be. But, realistic anaylsis of actual performance in both scouting methods and in advanced stats MUST be employed. It seems DM will refuse this reality.

This season, Kila and Jacobs will likely be the measure of DM in this respect.
