Aside from selfish considerations (I want to see baseball that means something) does this mean that Davies moves back to the home opener?

by Steve Hovley on Apr 5, 2009 7:07 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

nope

Tuesday: Meche
Wednesday: Zack
Thursday: Davies

unless the Tuesday game also gets postponed….which sounds possible.

yeah

but now they’re just playing the Monday game on Tuesday instead.

lol, this was my exact reaction too. ‘dammit! wait, does this mean no Ponson for the opener?! woohoo!’

I don’t understand why they continue to schedule games in northern cities in the first week. April is such a transitional month; the first week or so is usually so bombastically different than the final one.

That said – the weather here in the midwest is awful. (Chicago obviously worse, but not as annoyingly transitional as here in K.C.). This has been one miserably cold winter. Maybe someday….it’ll finally be over. I like the heartland, generally, but the weather is one MAJOR drawback. Well, other than the fact that I am one of 17 people who plan on living here past college. Also, it is a vacuum/ghost town for singles. Other than that, though, it’s great. Do I sound bitter? Am I gravitating a little bit off topic?

by Royals Nation on Apr 5, 2009 7:15 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

definitely bitter

but I agree on the vacuum/ghost town for singles thing. I once had a friend turn the dating pool in Utah into a metaphor: I’m in a very deep pool with very shallow fish.

Unfortunately, it seems like the Midwest is one giant shallow pool. The jury is still out, though, on the shallowness of the fish.

Agreed

It would be pretty easy to schedule games the first week in warm weather/domes:

AL home teams: Seattle, Oakland, Anaheim, Texas, Tampa Bay, Minnesota (at least for one more season), Toronto

NL home teams: Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Arizona, Milwaukee, Florida, Atlanta, Cincinnati (their opening day is a god given right or something)

That being said, every year people seem to freak out about early season weather, when its not that big a deal. Rainouts/snowouts happen. Its not that big a deal.

Not that big a deal

except that we get one fewer start from Meche and one more from HoRam.

by Trey Hillman's Chin on Apr 5, 2009 11:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

actually

HoRam’s start will just come a day earlier…with the off days he’s still not going to get any extra starts. Meche won’t lose any starts either.

The weather this spring

has been incredibly crappy. We have to turn the corner and head towards summer soon, right?

If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

Mother Nature is bipolar

It was 70 degrees and awesome Saturday, snowing today.

This is a

smack to the head. I consoled myself over seeing Ponson open the season on Friday, with the fact that I had tickets to see Meche vs. Sabathia on Saturday. Now I get to see Horacio Ramirez vs. Sabathia. Boy will that be fun. The game will be over before it even starts. Good luck leaving April with a winning record Royals. Sunday should be fun now though. Joba the Chamberlain vs. Gil-ga-Meche.

Prediction: Royals sweep Chicago, Yankees take 2 of 3 from Royals (Meche beats Joba). 4-2 after week 1.

Can't wait

Til Bud Selig suggests this series should be played in Milwaukee.

by RoyalsRetro on Apr 5, 2009 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

lol... that's funny.

He probably will suggest that for next year, every northern team opens in Milwaukee… They can play at 12:00, 3:30, 7:00, and 10:30. Put a 3 hour time limit like in HS tourneys!! Eastern Time of course. With the off day the next day, you can play 4 more games! 8 games in 2 days! Think of the revenue….

Why can't you hurry up the global warming

and give us more sun and warmth in Seattle? Bitch.

its a nice gesture to the fans that they already called the game

i hope mlb does this more often, rather than having everyone show up for a miserable, boring, pointless afternoon that also kills the buzz for the next day

by royalsreview on Apr 5, 2009 10:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed.

If there is any positive out of this except for that.. its that we wont have to dive into the first game then have a day off and play again.. at least we can play without an offday… although that offday is going to bite us in the ass when we have HoRam pitching against CC

yeah, but Ho-ram paid his dues in the NL

the Yankees are nothing compared to those awesome NL East lineups of a few years back.

I believe I told my wife that this would happen when the schedule was released…. :(

I'm in Chicago right now

it’s not snowing anymore, it is cold as hell, but c’mon! I was just ready for this game so much that I wouldn’t mind a 1-0 Meche win in the cold weather.
