Hmmm,

interesting. Good to see Luke getting the start.

If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

I'm fine with this

Hopefull Luke can get off to a good start and lock the spot, and I think Ponson could really help us in the bullpen. As for Soria, let’s just see how that plays out.

What's this day of rest sh@t? What's this bullsh!t? I don't f#ckin' care! It don't matter to Jesus. But you're not foolin' me, man. You might fool the f*cks in the league office, but you don't fool Jesus. This bush league psyche-out stuff. Laughable, man - ha ha! I would have f&cked you in the @ss Saturday. I f#ck you in the @ss next Wednesday instead. Wooo! You got a date Wednesday, baby! - Jesus Quintana

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

& Tejada as set up with Ponson moving to long relief role

I’d Imagine…It’s about the only thing that makes sense for Sidney in he ’pen

BOOM! ROASTED!

Keeping Ponson for the Bullpen

is a shitty idea. I’ve been a pretty vocal supporter of Sir Sid, but I’m sorry, he brings NOTHING to this team in a bullpen role. He was bringing something to the team in the rotation – More than Davies on a consistent basis to be sure.

It sure looks like that start of Davies today really was do or die for him, and I’ll give him credit, he pitched better than he has, but you can still see the problem with him…he’s consistently been a high pitch count pitcher this season. This was just his 3rd start of 6 innings + this season, whereas Ponson has made 4 such starts (with one fewer start).

BOOM! ROASTED!

by GoBabies!! on May 10, 2009 8:10 PM EDT reply actions

OK, I thought about it a little bit

And as long as this moves Tejada to a role of higher leverage, and Sidney then moves into the long relief role, I guess it could work.

Still can’t help but wonder WTF is going to happen when Waechter, Bale & now Soria all come back & are ready to pitch at MLB level. Seriously, they HAVE to be considering eating that Farnsworth contract at this point don’t they?

BOOM! ROASTED!

by GoBabies!! on May 10, 2009 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

No way they dump Farnsworth

Weachter is the odd man out i would think. Bale they can just hide on the DL until they need him. Soria obviously returns. So Ponson or Weachter for the last Bullpen spot, and Ponson probably has the inside track right now.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they dump Farnsworth

If he has some more outings between now & then akin to his first 4 or 5 outings. What choice do they have? They can’t keep Waechter in AAA, he’s on a MLB contract and while he is cheaper to walk away from that Farns, he’s been more effective, and GMDM is fully aware that this team can win the division this year.

All that being said, Farnsworth has looked better his last 3-4 times out (albeit in low-pressure situations). Best case scenario is that he proves to be effective.

they could probably sneak farnsi through waivers at this point...

Yea, but I’d wager that Farnsi would refuse assignment even if he made it through wavers and go the FA route & sign w/ the Nationals or someone equally shitty just to stay in MLB

Farnsworth will get traded before he just get cut

not at his salary. They may have to agree to pay a portion of it to whomever they trade him to but he will not just get cut summarily. I honestly wish he was gone since there are lots of guys that can throw a straight fastball with no action on it, but what can you do?

by stram#1 on May 10, 2009 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Traded?

To who? For what? I agree we’d TRY to trade him, but there is no GM in his right mind that would give anything for him at this point since it looks like we may be all but FORCED to release him at some point. This signing really is proving to be the low point in the GMDM era.

I saw Bale pitch today

in Tulsa he pitched one inning. Got the first two outs quickly then allowed a single. Passed ball by catcher. Man on second two outs Mayora (tulsa’s best hitter) at the plate, Mayora singled him home. Bale looked ok. Didn’t see the big curve today though.

I don’t like the sound of that. He’s on the 15 day DL for now, but RC’s can be a bitch.

I also have Amos Otis, and I think Darrell Porter and about a dozen non-Royals.

Haven’t seen ’em for years, they are at the folks house

Nah

My parents know better than that…

When they last moved, in 2002, they stacked all my sports collectible stuff in one corner of their basement…The house SUNK 6 inches. And that is a true story, all the base molding on that side of the house was 6" above the foundation :)

Technically, the RC cans are theirs, they’ve always been baseball fans. They go to the K every year on all the giveaway days. They have all the bobble-heads & everything

Hochevar is here to stay.

The rotation is now set for the foreseeable future. Leave Ponson in the pen until the trade deadline (hopefully sooner) and then move him for the highest level prospect possible (regardless of position) and then move on.

Rotation question

As a Royals fan living in STL who doesn’t get to the K as often as I would like, is there any chance that adding Hoch to the rotation will mix things up so that either Greinke or Meche throws during the Memorial Day series?

I have been praying for rain for about a month now in hopes of not having to see the 3/4/5 guys in St. Louis.

by pmulls on May 10, 2009 11:48 PM EDT reply actions

I figured that up myself the other day,

and it looks as if Zack will pitch the DAY BEFORE against Cleveland.

memorial day game is vs. Detroit

Meche will pitch if they don’t skip anybody, but there are 2 more off days where they could skip someone. If they skip one it will be Greinke on Memorial Day. Don’t know if that answers your question as you’re talking about St. Louis. I’m attending on Memorial Day and really wanted to see Greinke and that’s what I figured.

Do we have any idea about Hoch's arbitration clock?

Because, in the big picture, if he has 2 more weeks to go on his arby clock, I’d rather have him down. During that 2 week stretch, Banny and Ponson can try to “out-duel” each other about who gets set down when his alarm goes off as they have been. Dating back 3 starts each, to when both looked in danger, they have easily pitched well enough to win 4, if not 5, of the 6 starts.

He’s not some magic cure all panacea. He’s going to be, at best, our number 3- not some magic Greinke-esque pitcher. I’d love to be wrong, tho.

by sterlingice on May 10, 2009 11:52 PM EDT reply actions

His arbitration clock is fine.

According to Rany (who seems to know as much as anyone else I’ve read on this), the only thing they might be looking at now is his Super 2 status. Basically him costing a little bit more during his arbitration years.

If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

by Warden11 on May 11, 2009 12:04 AM EDT up reply actions

If it's only cost for year 2, then I don't care

If it’s a year of club control, then it’s a much bigger deal
