Interesting Quote from Gil Meche
The following is from the most recent Craig Brown column:
I missed this quote from Gil Meche following Jose Guillen's Excellent Right Field Adventure on Friday night that led to Howie Kendrick's inside the park home run:
"If you want to call it an inside-the-parker, you go ahead, but I'd rather not even comment on that one."
Hmmmm. Had to travel all the way to the LA portion of the internet to view that little dandy.
Think Meche was a little perturbed with the effort? I'm with Gil, I don't care to comment.

Gil always seems pissed off in his starts
Considering the offensive, defensive and bullpen support he seems to get from his teammates, I don’t blame him.

Are you kidding? He's a rebel
He doesn’t just get upset over reliever decisions and defensive misplays. He rebels!

or overpitches trying to get strikeouts
b/c his defense sucks, lessening his effectiveness. These guys are robots.

Thankfully he's been able to overcome his overpitching to be kinda effective this season
But really I think it is his anger at Guillen which is going to ruin his season.

nope...but it could have an effect....
trying to overthrow and strike everyone out isnt generally a good strategy in baseball (brian bannister 2008)

I have a strong feeling that Meche isn't going to alter his pitching style because he's afraid of a ball going to one of the three OFers
He’s a smart pitcher. He’s been pitching in the majors for many years now. He’s not going to change his pitching style because of one fielder. It didn’t look like he changed his pitching style or got poor results last year (when Guillen was in RF). Nor does it appear anything is different this year.

What's the big deal with that quote
I’m sure if you asked Guillen he would admit it is an error too.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

Missed another nice quote
“Hunter is an excellent defender, decent with the stick and a quality guy in the clubhouse.”
I can’t decide what makes him a better clubhouse guy: the time he punched Justin Morneau, or all the times he questioned Joe Mauer’s toughness when Mauer was coming back from injury. Maybe its all the times he dove for balls the last few seasons in Minnesota and missed.

you seem to have a really intense hatred for Toriiiiii Hunter....
was this punching of justin morneau a well known event?
Not gonna lie, Morneau really seems like a guy that deserves to be punched on occasion

I just think he's overrated
it’s like Jeter, in that he’s good, but get’s waaaay too much attention.
Jeter’s way better than Hunter. Or at least he has been most years. And although Jeter’s been good, he h asn’t been one of the best players in the league for a while (2006 excepted). So why do people talka bout Hunter like he is?
I know I’m biased in DDJ’s favor, and if people don’t buy into WAR or its subconcepts, it isn’t convincing, but seriously, look at the numbers at Fangraphs or www.baseballprojection.com. DDJ was better than Hunter just about every season from 2005-2008. And DDJ was almost never the best CF in the division… I’m thinking about writing a column about this: “How can a guy be one of the best centerfielders in baseball when he’s only the third best in his own division?”
/trivial rant

Hunter is also a well known asshole
He’s had a fairly long history of jawing at and getting into altercations with both teammates and opponents (at least when he was with the Twins — since he’s left the AL Central, I haven’t followed him very closely). He’s kind of an A.J. Pierzynski-lite. He has an assholish personality which gets him into conflict with both friend and foe (kind of sounds like me).

Didn't know that
he’s never seen a notepad and pencil he didn’t like, so the press loves him
