Hillman is learning that whole R/L/R/L…..thing. Bloomers relieves Aviles; not the worst move, but when the D has a weak spot, the ball will find it.

Not so bad

I like Butler in the 3 spot. I would still rather Callaspo and Dejesus switch places.

by Warden11 on May 15, 2009 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe I'm Imagining

Things, but I see a logic there. Coco and Bert are both S’s; splitting them up could be a late game advantage, as they’re both sandwiched between an R/L combo.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

by philofthenorth on May 15, 2009 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions

you know what?

Best logic I’ve heard yet rationalizing Bert that far down in the order.

If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

by Warden11 on May 15, 2009 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I like this lineup a lot

Like I said the only thing I’d like to see is Callaspo further up and DDJ further down.

by KCScuba on May 15, 2009 8:24 PM EDT up reply actions

yup

Keep in mind that DDJ is hitting RHP at .840 — around what he has for his career. His troubl this year is entirely against lefties.

Also keep in mind that although Callaspo is htting RHP about that well this year, historically he’s better against LHP. Also keep in mind that there is no way he’s this good, and that playing time distribution/batting order based on “hot streaks” is,um, a really “problematic” idea in the same sense that letting Kyle Farnsworth pitch to Jim Thome is ’problematic."

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.

by Matt Klaassen on May 15, 2009 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

is Bloomquist better or worse than Aviles at short?

I’ve seen mixed reviews on this, but it certainly makes sense that if he’s worse, Bloomquist get his at-bats when Greinke (a flyball pitcher who for the most part this season hasn’t needed the defense behind him for all that much) is on the mound…

of course, it’s not Aviles is doing much to justify his spot in the lineup

by RoyalsFanInBillings on May 15, 2009 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I Don't Know

If Trey thinks that deeply, but it’s a good point. Sporgie will not embarrass, but he’s not who you want in the field, anywhere.

Swung southward; there may be hope, but a lot of rain has fallen. How good is the drainage on this fancy new natural field?

keep him in the pen. He was a starter until he got a case of the yips while in Wilmington. That’s what has put him behind on the age scale. He lost the ’07 season due to that. He has been very good in the pen since he has been back since last year.

But I am from South Dakota and that is all there is to do here in the fall, go pheasant hunting, bring your aiming oil :-), then go drinking at whatever small town bar happens by.

Really? No, not really.

In SD, the birds are around from 10-2, then gone until sunset.

Lots of walking, eating sandwiches, hanging out at the suburban, maybe a little aiming oil, then when sunset comes, the wiley and elusive pheasant makes his return…

Really? No, not really.

pitchers sound like

they are just pounding the strike zone against us. I remember a few years back when Tony Pena was manager they really worked on plate discipline and it didn’t take long to figure out that we were taking, and it seemed like every batter started out 0-2. this year is starting to seem like that. the problem is that when we swing early we’re not doing anything with it, hence a lot of quick innings.

I hereby resign from this post.
