A note to Trey Hillman (Re: Ramirez and Tejeda)

The Hispanic reliever that you keep intending to bring into close games is named Robinson Tejeda. You might be under the impression that the Hispanic reliever that you can depend on in close games is named Horacio Ramirez.

Trey, as you can see.. Horacio (Left) is left-handed and does not have facial hair. Robinson (Right) is right-handed and does have facial hair. I know that Hispanics have very similar names sometimes. But you can call Robinson Tejeda something like Rob. Also, when it comes to bringing out pitchers, putting left-handed pitchers against right-handed batters is a BAD IDEA. Remember Trey, you want your right-handed pitchers to face right-handed batters. Crafty lefties do not have a lot of success against right-handed batters, and crappy lefties like Horacio have even less success.

Some other differences between Rob Tejeda and Horacio Ramirez.

Star-divide

In his last two appearances (3 innings pitched), Horacio has given up 5 runs. Ramirez has pitched 13 1/3 innings in the bullpen with a 6.08 ERA, and an opponent's line of .296/.367/.463

As for Robinson, his ERA is 2.65, he only has one outing where he gave up more than one run, and he has given up 5 runs in the ENTIRE SEASON. He has also struck out 23 in 17 innings. Opponent's line against him is .210/.359/.274. For the sake of reference, batters facing Horacio Ramirez hit like a #3 hitter, and batters facing Robinson Tejeda hit like Mike Aviles with plate patience. When you want to keep a lead, you NEED to bring in pitchers like Robinson Tejeda, not pitchers like Horacio Ramirez.

Your usage of Robinson Tejeda suggests that you don't know that Robinson Tejeda is on the team, as he has frequently been left in the pen for periods of 3 days in a row. While Horacio Ramirez has been rested over 3 days once in 2009.

In conclusion.. Trey.. for the love of Christ and all the Royals fans. Please STOP putting Horacio Ramirez in close games. You'd have better luck making it through Haiti in a gold-encrusted jacket than you would keeping a lead with Horacio Ramirez pitching. Just STOP putting Horacio into close games.

Perhaps if we start calling Tejeda

Robby, Rob, Bob, or Burly Big Bob then Trey will decide he’s more usable.

Simply excellent

I’m sure Trey will get it all figured out now that he has your easy-to-follow instructions.

you'll need to monitor the situation to see

if an updated note is needed now that Tejeda is going on the DL and Colon is coming up in his place.

Mr. Duvall: Now, I'm not gonna do that because we've already paid the DJ, but don't think I'm not taking this book seriously. Coach Carr has fled school property. Ms. Norbury has been accused of selling drugs. Now what the young ladies in this grade need is an attitude makeover. And you're going to get it, right now. I don't care how long it takes. I will keep you here all night.
Joan the Secretary: We can't keep them past four.
Mr. Duvall: I will keep you here until four.

It appears that Tejeda has been hurt

And is now going on the DL. It appears that this is yet another example of complaints about TH not using the right reliever often enough, and then finding out later that the reliever in question was injured. You’d think that fans would start considering the injury possibility earlier in the process. But that is less fun.

Or if a guy is hurt,

the team would stop keeping him on the roster and basically wasting a spot.

If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

To be fair

If you are going to keep injured players on the roster, you are leaving yourself open to second guessing.

But I hope you’re not saying that as soon as any player has any degree of injury/soreness/etc. that he should immediately go on the DL. If so, then every team would most of their 25-man roster on the DL by the ASB.

No

But it was a few days, and no mention of any injury problem or concern. You cant deny that the Soria situation, for example, was handled badly. He opened himself up to criticism with his usage and denial that health was a factor. That plants doubts in peoples heads the next time.

Who cares if Hillman or anyone else talked about the injury publicly. Why should he/they do that? To make you feel better?

You cant deny that the Soria situation, for example, was handled badly.

Why? Because they didn’t DL him as soon as he felt shoulder soreness? Again, should every player with soreness get DL’d immediately? If not, then when? That’s a tough question. By all accounts, nobody knew at any point (including right now) what was wrong with Soria’s shoulder. They did exams and MRI’s and couldn’t find anything. So they sat him for a while hoping it would get better. Then he pitched again for a little while and it wasn’t getting better. So then they DL’d him. When there is no identifiable injury, it’s not an easy call when or if to DL a player.
He opened himself up to criticism with his usage and denial that health was a factor. That plants doubts in peoples heads the next time.

And by now we should understand that Hillman isn’t necessarily going to be honest about player injuries. Why give that information to opposing teams. But instead of seriously considering the injury possibility when a player is under-used, many prefer to just jump to the conclusion that Hillman is just being stupid. Stupidity is definitely a possibility. But there are other possibilities as well. Of course jumping to the conclusion that the manager is an idiot and overreacting accordingly is much more fun.

Chill dude

I was just pointing out that he opens up himself up to second guessing with his actions and statements sometimes. I didn’t comment on the appropriateness of that. You have an irritating habit of supposing someones beliefs or viewpoint sometimes.

I guess we all have our own annoying habits

And I wasn’t assuming anything. I was commenting on the prematurity of some reliever usage complaints and how no one appears to seriously consider whether an under-used reliever is actually injured. Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes.
