So

Trey will put Maier at leadoff because he wrote the rest of the lineup in pen and he can’t change it. Right?

Oh it will...

Are you telling me Jesus Christ cant hit a curve ball?

by averagegatsby on May 29, 2009 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Richard

Richard is a pretty generic lefty groundballer — he throws fastballs and sliders to induce lefties into grounding out when they do not swing and miss (career v. LHP: 3.25 K/BB, 263/307/347 655 OPS), but without much of a changeup, righties can sit and mash his fastball (career v. RHP: 1.37 K/BB, 311/366/500 866 OPS).

If ever there was a game for Trey to go with the all-righty lineup (well, with the current roster, 8 right-handed hitters including switch hitters, plus DDJ or Teahen), this is it.

by Gopherballs on May 29, 2009 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

so

his lineup will involve multiple LHB and Richard pitches a 3 hitter?

Yes

But I bet LeBron scores 40 in the next game also. I think he’s the best player in the league, but the Magic play a style that perplexes Cleveland for some reason.

realistically speaking

by slayor on May 29, 2009 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I still like our pitching a lot

but the position players at their worst do make Moore like pretty effing bad.

"Do they have people that tall in Mexico?"

by NHZ on May 29, 2009 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions

i mean seriously

JR House and Brayan Pena are both lighting it up in the minors, well Pena hit well up here when he got a chance, yet John Buck / Luis Hernandez / Ponson / Horam / Colon take up roster space while we brought up hulett, who is left handed, so now both our backups (hulett and maier) are left handed, making this roster a complete disaster

realistically speaking

by slayor on May 29, 2009 9:01 PM EDT up reply actions

At this point, you'd swap out Buck for Pena?

It’s not like Olivo’s been good either. I’d more likely to try and find a taker for Olivo this summer and then bring up Brayan. Luis Hernandez is pretty redundant – and hasn’t gotten enough PT to justify his spot – given that Bloomy and Hulett can allegedly stand around at short. Ponson really should be DFA’d….

"Do they have people that tall in Mexico?"

by NHZ on May 29, 2009 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions

you can't trade olivo as long as greinke is convinced he's the missing link

between him and superstardom. just, no way. so yes, I would dump buck, mainly because what is the point in keeping him on the roster? Ponson and ho-ram are garbage, hernandez and hulett are redundant, and making the bench suck.

realistically speaking

by slayor on May 29, 2009 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

HoRam, at least,

might be able to get lefties. I see Ponson as having no place on the roster if he’s not in the rotation.

I think Greinke’d pitch well with or without one of the worst hitters in baseball – approach wise, at least – catching him. But I see the logistical issue, yes.

"Do they have people that tall in Mexico?"

by NHZ on May 29, 2009 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I'm sure greinke could pitch fine without him

But when the guy is putting up historic numbers 1/3 of the way through the season, there is just no way you touch that combo. You’d have to be out of your mind

realistically speaking

by slayor on May 29, 2009 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

The Alex Gordon era - www.number4thesmirk.com

by CollininCalifornia on May 29, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

it was less of a disaster then

but it’s gotten worse and worse. and now that everybody is playing as terribly as humanly possible, the massive issues this roster has are really being brought to the forefront – as evidenced by this piss poor lineup we have been subjected to tonight

realistically speaking

by slayor on May 29, 2009 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah

but just b/c everyone is playing piss poor right now (as you said) doesn’t mean the roster is a disaster. I think it’s just a bad coincidence and probably not as bad as it seems right now (though it does seem pretty bad).

Is it hard to watch? Sure. Will the offense always suck balls like this? no.

They will have their moments and i’m still thinking we’re a .500 team.

The Alex Gordon era - www.number4thesmirk.com

by CollininCalifornia on May 29, 2009 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

but the roster IS a disaster

ponson / ho-ram = both the same player, only one is left handed. Why are they burning roster spots?

bloomquist / hulett / hernandez – all the same player, only we signed 1 to a two year multi million dollar deal

buck / olivo = same player

guillen / jacobs = neither can play defense, making them the same player

When you have this redundancies, you get screwed out of having players you might actually need. Like, wasn’t it nice when we had Brayan pena, that switch hitting guy that could play the corners and catch? But no, we need to keep the three headed bloomquist/hulett/hernandez monter.

there are some redundancies but how has the roster changed since the 18-11 start? Hulett and Hernandez up in place of Hochevar and Aviles? Is that really that big of a difference?

You make good points and I won’t argue with them too much b/c the Royals suck right now… but I don’t think this spell is anything more than a valley in a season fully of ups and downs.

I have come to the sad realization that this team

is just as bad as I thought it would be at the beginning of the season. Sure, there are bright spots, but overall this team is composed of horrible defensive players who are career low-average hitters with KYLE DAVIES as their number three pitcher and a whole truck load of nothing behind him. Their bullpen is composed of washed up journeymen, and their two best players last year are hurt (Soria) and exploded (Aviles). This team is horribly composed and is filled with big, fat, failure turtles.

I need a break from the Royals. I’m coming back in a week. Please don’t miss me too much. Before I go, I have but one image to sum up the 2009 Kansas City Royals season so far:

I really had a lot of hope that Dayton Moore was the man but I think at this point

it’s clear he’s not.
If not for a miracle resurrection of Greinke this year, we’re the Washington Nationals. Seriously. Guillen is junk and we’re paying him more than we paid Mike f’ing Sweeney. Everyone in baseball knew Guillen was sh*t but we went out an overpaid for him. Meche is aight but he’s no ace. He’s what Seattle thought he was an up and down 4.25 era pitcher prone to implosions. Coco Crisp was a decent pull but the fact that we have both Olivio and John Buck (F*CK YOU BAIRD!) on the roster is ridiculous. Aviles was a fluke last year and Jacobs has been good but is a horrible splits guy. This team is trash from top to bottom. I can’t think other than Greinke and Soria any team would want any of our guys at the prices we pay them.

I'm sorry I missed the splendid

final notice that “yes, everyone is regressing” game tonight. Jacobs OPS is now .810. Bloomquist fails in his attempt to help Mellinger save face by being Bloomquist. Banny being Banny. Ponson being HoRam. Awesome.

this is getting comical

no way the team is this bad, but what can you say? night in and night out, other than the odd win once every few games or so and whenever greinke pitches, this team has just not even been a part of the games. i mean, we can sit here and say that they’re not this bad, but they’ve still got to go out and score runs and pitch and actually get it done. i don’t know, it’s a long season etc. but man this is just no fun at all to go through right now.

I hereby resign from this post.

I think the answer

is not just playing Willie B. every night, but giving him more PAs than anyone else. When he isn’t available, put Mitch up there.

Who's winning the guess Sidney Ponson's IP contest?

I think you might be close to declaring a winner.
