What Now
A post that discusses possible trades as the Royals decline thru May.

Good post there
I see some possibilities there. If we’re going to keep improving year by year we need to make some quality trades and quality draft picks, and right now I’m not sure I can trust the judgement there due to some past desicions. I still have faith though, I mean why wouldn’t I? Just look at my sig.

ha! that's for backing me up there, d_f
I know it’s hard to believe that JoGui is below replacement level, especially when listening to the mainstream media, but the numbers are what they are.

like I said earlier on this topic
it would be a remarkable “achievement” if his defense kept up this pace. It simply has to regress to the mean. He’s bad, but I find it hard to believe that he’s the worst defensive outfielder of the decade. Brad Hawpe was “only” about -40 runs over all of last year, and he’s way, way worse than Guillen.
Still…. not good

Even when he only has a range of about 20 feet around him?
If the ball isn’t a fly ball he isn’t getting to it.
Without looking at stats,
what MLB team would take him as a right fielder?
I can’t think of any.
That leaves us with the AL teams, is he really DH worthy? He wouldn’t even DH for the Royals against RH pitchers.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.
Without worry about money/trades?
Atlanta would probably be better off with him. His defense has to regress, and he’s better than Francoeur. The money’s a huge problem with any of these ideas.
The Nationals always need outfielders… um…
The Mets are using Gary Sheffield
I’m working here… How about the Angels? Wait…

Without worry about money, it's a stretch.
Throw in his contract and we’re stuck.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.
Jacobs for Brandon Wood (is that giving to much?)
Call up Kila
Bloomquist. God? Or just an illusion? You be the judge.
Jacobs, DeJesus, Hochevar, Mahay, Olivo, Farnsworth
I’d be fine with seeing any of them go. Jacobs to SF for Johnathan Sanchez would be one idea. I think Jacobs could definately land us a starter, even if not Sanchez. We could bring up Kila to replace Jacobs. We have Brayan Pena to bring up if Olivo is dealt. We still have 2 lefties in the bullpen even if we trade Mahay, and if they get rid of Ramirez, DiNardo is pitching well in Omaha.
The problem with trading Jacobs:
Other teams see the Royals playing Billy Butler at first base for his defense.
So almost all national league teams are out. And Jacobs .800 – .825 OPS, while better than Ross Gload isn’t exactly all-star caliber.
Are there any GMs out there that overvalue HRs and under value defense, OBP and OPS?
That guy in Kansas City seems like a candidate

is it possible that the Royals nation is over-reacting to a team slump?
other teams go thru these types of stretches.
"Things could always be worse." - Buddy Bell
I definitely think it's possible.
Looking at the cast of characters though, it could also be how this team plays in general.
I don’t think the Royals are quite as bad as they have been the last few weeks, but I think it is closer to their “true” talent level than the unbelievable start was.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.
I'm sure in general
but before the season, many saw this as a not-quite-.500 team, and that’s about how they’ve played over the season. So if they Royals are coming closer to not realistically contending, it’s worth thinking about the future and who should be moved.
