Austin Wood Throws 169 Pitches and Strikes Out 14 for Texas in CWS Regional Game
Austin Wood's line during tonight's epic UT-Boston College clash: 13 IP, 2 hits, 4 walks and 14 strikeouts. Oh, and he entered the game in the seventh inning. Somewhere in there, there was also a hidden no-hitter, as Wood threw 12.1 IP of hitless baseball.
In all Wood threw 169 pitches for the Longhorns.
Recently, Bryan Smith of Baseball Prospectus pegged Wood as the best pro prospect on the Longhorns. With the Amateur Draft later this week, Wood certainly has picked a good time to deliver an utterly absurd performance.

On the other hand
this might remind everyone of how college pitchers’ arms are often abused… I wonder if this might actually hurt his draft stock
I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.
prob not.
college pitchers usually get more days off in between starts/appearances, so it’s a balancing act.
Any research on college pitch counts signficantly effecting pro performance? I’m curious how much there is to this “abuse” deal.

Great performance,
but scary stuff. Guess the Texas coach doesn’t give a flip if his arm falls off.

i'd love to see some of the other pitch counts for this game...
but the boxscores are pretty limited
the loser probably plays two games tomorrow
unless Army wins the elimination game.
Today, we are all Honkballers.
Here is the story from Big-12 Hardball
Texas and Boston College make history last night, and this morning.
