Richard picks off a lot of runners because of his "near" balk move

He has been called a balk once, but the other 2 or 3 times have been pickoffs

Obama is half white/half black.

by JoeCoolMan24 on May 4, 2009 9:53 PM EDT reply actions

Not my words

But according to Steve Stone, he said it is not a balk because of the natural hitch in his leg, and as long as he straightens his leg toward 1st, it is not a balk. He said the head fake to home is what get the runners and sometimes the umpire.

Obama is half white/half black.

by JoeCoolMan24 on May 4, 2009 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions

well, that makes sense.

I don’t really know what constitutes a balk, I was just going off of what Frank White said.

So, Frank White vs. Steve Stone deathmatch.

by rockchalk on May 4, 2009 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

not really,

by rule the pitcher is supposed to step towards the bag he is throwing to.

If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

by Warden11 on May 4, 2009 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions

He does, as long as his front leg does not cross back over the trail leg

It’s really a complicated rule, and I don’t fully understand it, but I believe Steve Stone who was an ex-pitcher. If it was Hawk saying it, I would be a lot more skeptical.

Obama is half white/half black.

by JoeCoolMan24 on May 4, 2009 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions

So you're trying to say that if a pitcher has a hitch in his leg kick,

he can cross his back leg?

No, he is supposed to step directly towards the bag. Read through the balk rule and there is no mention of 45 degrees.

If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

by Warden11 on May 4, 2009 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, like I said, I am not the expert

and I won’t be able to argue it if i don’t fully know the rule. I am just going by what Steve Stone said, and if he got away with it 3 times, it must not just be Stone.

Obama is half white/half black.

by JoeCoolMan24 on May 4, 2009 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Works for me,

lefties get away with it often. Petitte was great at it.

If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

by Warden11 on May 4, 2009 10:03 PM EDT up reply actions

he's got a 45 degree angle...so he doesn't have to directly step to first

but i think it was his upper body leaning towards home that got Frank thinking it was a balk.

Ohmygoodness, that was disgusting.

And I think it was a GREAT call for Ryan and Frank to shut up and let the crowd noise tell the story. Ryan usually talks over those moments, but that was impressive.

A moment like that, with a pitch like that, just needs to be left to the fans.

It was motherfucking unreal.

Hey, look what happens when he only hits against righties.

It really isn’t shocking.

Why couldn’t we grab him and, say, Chris Shelton and mash them together for our DH spot?

by rockchalk on May 4, 2009 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions

And with the Mariners possessing Chris Shelton...

I can’t believe they chose Sweeney over him for the MLB roster.

Maybe Shelton isn’t as good as the numbers say, but that is shocking.

I might hve a post ready later tonight

on how dumb it is having TPJ/Hernandez on the roster. The Royals should bring up Shealy or House to platoon with Jacobs

by Matt Klaassen on May 4, 2009 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

pretty sure TPJ

is on the DL and that’s the only reason why Hernandez is up

plus, again, I’m pretty sure Shealy is not hitting in AAA

why do I know? Shealy and Shelton was my hope at 1B, currently starting Nick Swisher at 1B for lack of good options

I took Swisher in the RR league.

I missed the memo he wouldn’t be starting, and took him too early (I just assumed that Girardi had an ounce of intelligence, but whatever), but thankfully Xavier Nady got hurt.

Swisher = my fantasy savior.

by rockchalk on May 4, 2009 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

just saying

much rather have the flexibility to play him at one of my 3 OF spots and Util rather than stick him at 1B, David Ortiz not playing 1B in interleague really screwed me.

neither TPJ nor Hernandez serves as purpose on the roster

if Bloomquist can play SS. Probably not even if he can’t.

I’d say Hernandez is TPJ without the glove, except he’s even a worse hitter.

Former Braves rule, I guess.

Shealy’s three weeks at AAA don’t mean anything

Have they stopped showing that commercial?

Followed by Kruk shaking a baby

You say something like, "Is that it?" I know what you`re trying to say. You`re trying to say, "Aww yeah, that`s it." Then you tell me you want some more. Well...I`m not surprised. But I`m quite sleepy.

BBTN: Kruk

“It’s like he’s pitching against high school kids.”

One of the only smart things Kruk has ever said.

When they ask the people what they think was the most important thing that happened this weekend Kruk said: “The Royals coming back after being shutdown for 6 innings, and winning it”

You’ve got to remember, White Sox fans watch Farnsworth pitch the 8th inning on Opening Day. They have no reason to think the Royals will be successful this year.

Greinke for MVP.

I just watched the condensed game of Greinke’s shutout from yesterday. 2.6 WAR in 6 stats? Greinke can’t be the King because Felix will always be King, but even King Felix must pay homage to him. I’d say Greinke is something like a Holy Roman Emperor – let’s call him Charlemagne.
