Excellent day in the AL Central

Royals win

Twins lose
Indians lose
Tigers lose (albeit at the expense of the White Sux winning - but I'll take that)

Star-divide

It's really weird.  I've been having strange feelings when I look at the standings.  Some people on here aren't used to the order at all having not ever lived in a time where the Royals were legitimate occupiers of the top post.  So, I can certainly imagine the elation of seeing that and feeling that this could also possibly be a legit team.

But, I was 10 in 74 and lived through the glory days.  So, for me, the site of the Royals at the top seems totally normal and RIGHT and deserved.  It's almost like all the intervening suckitude is dissolving away and almost didn't happen.  I look at the standings and it just seems - yeah, no question, of course.  Yet, I don't know where all the years went and I know I've suffered mightily seeing the Royals never in their deserved spot.

I want this team to win.  I want this team to win now.  But, even more so, I want DM to stay the course on his stated goal of building an organization for winning over the long haul.  The Royals once were one of the most respected and feared teams in MLB.  That is what I most want again.  I want the Royals to be at the top of this division, year in and out, and legitimately fighting in the playoffs with the best teams in the league to win their fair share of World Series.

Dare I believe that it is coming?  It feels like I should, but damn I can't take another bitch slap.  The audacity of hope?

Yes, in short

I’m damn sick and tired of being the league laughing stock when we had so much incredibly great tradition of class and winning. It’s time to reclaim and build on that kind of tradition.

Royals baseball. Where .260 would be orgasmic.

It should be less then 132.

We play the other teams a lot, so if we win a certain amout, they have to lose a certain amout of times right?

Go Royals!

Well, when you beat the second-place team

you subtract 2 from the number.

More to the point:

Despite what is now their overall sub-.500 record as a franchise, the Royals have still — even after 14 years of wallowing in the muck — spent more time being a good team than a bad one.

It’s the fact that people forget that which infuriates me. It’s not like the Royals are the Expos/Nats. Or, for that matter, even the Brewers or Padres or Rangers.

Of course, Pittsburgh has the same problem.

yeah this is new to me

and I love it….oh wait, I did have 2003, I didn’t realize at the time that it’s not the same thing as right now.

Dad told me last night to start saving up my money

because I’ll need it come October to purchase tickets. He’s felt for the past few weeks that this team is the real deal but didn’t want to tell me and get my hopes all up. He said that this is different than 2003, this is actual greatness. And I can’t be more excited. I don’t know HOW he knows but I trust him.

Agreed....and a screed.

While I take issue with many comments about T. Hillman. This manager is bringing this team out of the shadows and back into the light. I’m not waxing as much as keeping the faith. I was born in 74, so I didn’t have the privilege of watching this team start from nothing go to the top. I did spend many a night at the K as a kid watching number 5 at 3rd , Frank at 2nd, and Bye-Bye Balboni at 1st with Willie Wilson and ‘the toothpick express’ in the outfield.

I haven’t sensed this much energy in the team since Tony told us to ‘Believe’. But even then, it came crashing down.

I feel this city is coming out of a too-long slumber, and that many fans are having trouble coming to grips with the possibility (and fact – at this point in time) that the Royals ’don’t suck’. People get very cynical very easy in this day and age, if you don’t have instant success, then your obviously a failure. Dback’s changes this week can cleary show that type of mentality.

I believe in the Royals, I believe in the values Mr. K brought to this city and how the Royals represnt us as part of the American Baseball landscape. Tears have come to my eyes on more than one occassion in seeing the pride and legacy the current team has been handed. They have my support.

Keep reading for the screed_____ and it may sound harsh…but I’m not the only one to feel this way.

Fair-weather fans: get on or get off the bandwagon. Our manager and staff are here for the year. If you don’t like them, to bad. They are here, they are under contract, and they will finish season with you with or without you. If you get weird looks from the faithful, oh well….deal with it.

Well, I spent many a night as a kid at

Royals Stadium watching number 5 at 3rd, Freddie at SS, Cookie then Frank at 2B, Big Bad John at 1st with AO and AC in the outfield.

So, consider one of the “faithful” to be giving you a weird look right now, wondering what planet you must be from to conflate “despising the idiotic thought processes of a run-of-the-mill manager” with being a “fair-weather fan”.

Spending nights as a kid in the 70's was obviously much better than in the 80's

So it would appear that being higher in age than myself you must be more faithful and have a greater understanding of the Royals and that your comments must holder greater sway or weight.

Not sure how I merged those comments you put in “quotes”, since I did no such thing. It would appear you felt this was a personal attack on you, which was not my intent. BTW- Conflate isn’t word most people use in daily coversation, thanks for adding that to my collection of words NOT to use.

So for the record, please accept my apology for making anyone feel like a fair weather fan. Being critcal of people is the way it is in sports. If do you don’t like someone, do what you can to chase them out of town.

I remember back in 03 my dad would wear a button on his vending uniform that had the E number

I think he might have to bust that out again this year!

Well, I can't claim lifelong fan

as I grew up in Miami with no pro team to root for. I honestly didn’t follow baseball as a kid much in the 60s and 70s because of that. After I retired from the army in ‘96, and I moved to Topeka, I slowly became a fan of the royals. I witnessed the 2003 season but never really thought it was a team that could get to the playoffs. This year’s team has a greater chemistry, and has the confidence that I think will propel them into October.

I don’t know if this makes me a bandwagon fan or not. All I know is that I am a royals fan and that I stick by my sports teams, win or lose. I don’t really know how else to be a fan.
