Another former Royal gets a managerial job
A. J. Hinch has replaced Doug Melvin as manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He was playing for us as a rookie in what, 2001? Now he's managing? I feel old.

Melvin never should have fired SEITZER.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

Bob Melvin, not Doug Melvin
Another ex-Royal.
Hinch was a rookie in 1998 in Oakland, but 2001 was his first year in KC. He retired from baseball pretty early, I guess being smart enough to figure his future was in the front office. He’s considered a rising star. I think he will only manage this team temporarily, many seem to think he’s simply evaluating the young players to figure out who will be there next year. So perhaps we can pull some trades?

Good for A.J.
I have a feeling Banny will be a good manager someday, hopefully for us.

Weird
Part of the Johnny Damon trade. Of the three players we got for the caveman, one retired early and is already a manager? How old is he?

He'll be 35 next week
Which makes him just over 4 years older than me. I feel old now.

That'd make him
about 4 years younger than me. I’ve wasted my life!

I don't want to talk about it.

Best wishes to A.J.
He did what he could in Royal blue, which wasn’t much because he wasn’t a good player, but as an ex-Royal he deserves our support.
I was really surprised when I saw the story. I figured A.J. Hinch was probably selling real estate in Atlanta or something by now.
He’s really young for a manager. I like that idea, a guy in tune with the way players think today and how to push their buttons. Someone not wedded to those traditional methods that we now know are ineffective.

Yeah
I wonder if he will be a real innovative guy since he didn’t come up through the traditional route to manager and is also pretty young so perhaps hasn’t become fully engrained with “old school” stuff. I guess the only clue might be whether his player evaluation work has been more statistical or more tooly. Anyone know?
