That was an interesting debate, and I have to side with NYRoyal on this one. I work with Schaum, and his opinion on Boras isn’t that of, say, your probable typical Royals message boarder (in other words, he doesn’t loathe him with the fire of 1,000 suns).

I remember that user posting something another time that made me think it was Schaum (and not trying to hide his ID), but the last debate made me think it probably wasn’t. I figured you would know.

I don’t have too much of an opinion on the whole thing. I don’t think Boras is horrible, etc. Not a fan, but it getes exagerratd. The Gutierrez situation is its own can of worms.

Early in the season, I was watching the Angels on ESPN (I think), and the announcers went on and on AND ON about how Morales supposedly doesn’t speak a word of English, except to order a “number one” at the drive-thru.

That made me laugh, because his English is actually pretty damn good. More proof that national announcers will read any old thing that they are told about the home team.

This all reminds me of a small story:

I don’t remember what team was in town (town = Omaha), but there was a player who sat by the end of the dugout, where my team and I work, the whole time. He was giving my friend and me Looks the whole game, and after a while he tossed us a ball. On the ball was a longwinded request for our names, ages, phone numbers, and something else I don’t remember. Not sure why he wanted to write in Spanish to a couple of blonde chicks.

So a few minutes later, we toss the ball back, with our own note explaining that we really don’t hang out with players, and sorry but we really can’t give him our numbers, and we’re a little bit younger than him anyway….all in perfect Spanish. He looked pretty surprised.
