Throw in the towel for #1 in 2010.

KC is not going to win the division.  Isn't it time to give up on this season and go for the bigger reward?  SI cover man-child Bryce Harper MAY be draft eligible in 2010.  Shouldn't we be doing everything in our power to "trade up"?  Could we even afford Harper with the revenue hit we'd take after tanking in2009?  Are we going to stand idly by and watch this kid rot in the Nationals system?

Five years after the draft, the Yankees and Red Sox will make the team that owns Harper very very rich.

what more do you want to them to do?

1. Playing TPJ daily: check
2. Playing St. Wilie daily: check
3. Playing Guillen, in RF, daily: check

they could barely tank more if they tried, absent just shutting down Greinke & Meche, luckily the royals have found it easy enough to lose with them pitching anyway

continue

4. Giving Olivo regular PAs vs. RHP: check
5. Carrying Luis Hernandez on the roster despite having Willie B. AND TPJ: check
6. Allowing Mike Jacobs to hit versus LHP: hmmm… maybe they haven’t decided yet
7. Using a catcher as a DH: check

I’m also concerned about the release of HoRam. The offseason makes me wonder if Dayton doesn’t realize know that’s it’s only your record, not “oh, man, I fell sorry for that poorly run team” that gets you a high pick.

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.

in addition....

you couldn’t just put Greinke in the bullpen, his awesomeness would make the Royals win, so I guess you’d have to place him and Meche on the DL for , “undisclosed reasons”

8. Keep your best first baseman in AAA

9. Farnsworth
10. Liberal use of the DL.

DH: Where's the party!
Danny: David Howard and Mike Sweeney! Go away! Guys, you're gonna wake up my Mom!

The call is going out across the land

I have hereby challenged the Royals to take The Mighty Nationals down a peg and reclaim the exalted status of Baseball’s Biggest Bozos.

Though even if the Royals lose enough games, it’s probably not doable, as coming out onto the field with “Natinals” on your chest takes the cake.

As glad as I am the Royals are opening the purse strings

I wonder if they would really pay Bryce Harper what he likely wants. That would be some negotiation.

harper

that’s a pretty crazy story. seems like it’s rare that SI’s coverage of a teenager works out well for the teen, but we’ll see.
