Wil Myers

When KC signed former Wesleyan Academy star catcher Wil Meyers, they got themselves a really good ball player. Having coached Wil for 2 years in legion ball, he is a great player. I know that he will do good and I know we will be seeing him in the majors in the next few years. I have seen him mature as a player over the last few years. Yes he needs a little work, but I am sure the KC organization will get him to where he needs to be. Congrats Wil.

Jonesey

Tell us more! More info on this kid. Tendancies? Strengths? Weaknesses? Playing style? What pitch does he chase with two strikes? What are his approaches?

You say you’ve coached Wil, I need more! :)

will he be like a major league catcher we all know and love and

swing at every freaking slider that ends up two feet off the plate?

If he makes the majors,

I’m pretty sure he can best a BB-K rate of 2/58

Hell, TPJ can do better than that

He is at a BB-K of 2/7, only 51 more Ks to go.

it almost certainly won't last

but at the moment, Olivo is tied with DDJ right under Crisp as the most valuable Royal position player.

Wil Myers

Wil doesn’t officially sign with the Royals til Aug 17th. He will then fly to Idaho Falls on the 18th and start out there in the Pioneer league with the Chukars. He is working out with the Burlington royals all this week. Projected major league debut is 2012. Just saw him sunday and he is excited about playing for the Royals. He is an above average catcher. His pop time is really good, good foot work and great arm. Can play pretty much anywhere on the diamond. As far as hitting, he has great power, but the royals will work and change his swing a litle bit. Can’t wait to see him play.

Over slotted bonuses.

You say he is working with Burlington already? What are they doing? Working on? What was the bonus? I’m interested.

Catcher?

Did he say he will start out at catcher, or if they expect to try him at a couple positions (3B, OF) to see where he’s the best fit?

Thx for the info.

Wil Myers

This week is just a workout wit hthem, no games. But pretty sure he will be mainly a catcher, but they will probably give he a chace at other positions too. The more I find out from him, the more i’ll post.

Article on Wil Myers

Wil Myers has done, done it again, you might say. He’s just been named to the Top High School baseball team in the nation. This is quite an honor for the young man from High Point Wesleyan/Wesleyan Christian Academy.

It’s the USA Today All-USA Baseball Team First Team selections and here are Wil’s stats from today’s USA Today on-line edition:

C Wil Myers Wesleyan Christian Academy High Point, N.C. 6-3, 190 Hit .532 and had 14 home runs, 41 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 62 at-bats. Has played every position.

Usually I wouldn’t go this route, but we have covered Wil Myers very closely this season and I still remember that Monday afternoon game at Grimsley, right after the Easter/Spring break, when he hit three out in the same game against the Whirlies and after the third homer the pro scouts just walked away shaking their heads.

I’m sure may of Wil’s fans and followers have seen this many times over the years and here’s the USA Today account on Wil from today’s published edition and you can’t get this part on-line. Normally we just list the internet contents, but today we will re-create what the USA Today hard copy has to say about Wil. The kid is deserving……

They(USA Today) call Wil Myers Mr. Versatility:Wil Myers, who hit .532 with 14 home runs has played every position for Wesleyan Christian Academy.

Wil Myers C Wesleyan Christian Academy, High Point, N.C.
Height:6-3. Weight:190.

College/draft:South Carolina/91st pick(Kansas City Royals).

Stats:Hit .532 and had 14 home runs, 41 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 62 at-bats. Has played every position for Wesleyan.

2 things Jonesy says bother me:
Yes he needs a little work, but I am sure the KC organization will get him to where he needs to be.
As far as hitting, he has great power, but the royals will work and change his swing a litle bit.

He is right. The KC Royals organization will screw him up and make him worthless.

Fuck This Team. Period.

To kabrink

Like every player that come in to the league. The organization doesn’t change things they tweek it a little. They won’t change him much. He’ll do well.
