Greinke set to take his cuts vs. Astros
Typical story from mlb.com. But just wanted to remind everyone, in a season that is quickly becoming boring, I always love watching Zack pitch and it will be extra cool to see what he does with the bat tonight.
"Oddly enough, his pitching opponent is Russ Ortiz, the same guy who surrendered a home run to Greinke back on June 10, 2005. That was at Arizona, when Ortiz was pitching for the D-backs."

Greinke is one of the few interesting story lines left this season
And he should help draw a big crowd his next home start on July 3rd.
Oh, wait – that will be a big crowd for buck night and fireworks. Nevermind.

He should hit fifth in this lineup
Certainly ahead of Maier, Olivo, and whoever is playing shortstop.

Assuming that the Royals don't manage to trade Butler for Russ Ortiz before game time

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.

Just wait for the reaction when Dayton includes Bianchi or Kila
as part of the Guillen-Franceour swap

A bit melodramatic?
Yeah, he has regressed to the mean lately – but he still has the best stats in all of baseball. I guess all I’m saying is I’m not worried about him at all – I still believe he will have the best ERA in the league for the year and be among the favorites to win the Cy Young.

No joke
Zack Greinke is hitting 8th tonight, ahead of Maier.

It's almost sad. I mean, I can see the reasoning for it
But you just get the feeling Trey is doing it because LaRussa does, not because he understands the benefits.

So THAT'S what the man-love hugging/discussion was over the weekend

actually
as I’m sure you all know from my analyses of NL teams in my Lousy Lineup Optimizer series, some sabermetric analysts also think hitting the pitcher 8th is a good idea in NL parks.
That assumes that the pitcher is by far the worst hitter in the lineup, though…
