Trainer Nick said it’s no problem if my arm bends like this.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

This time John Bale swings his pitching arm into the air instead of a wall.
Ask about it later, “I just never believed what Crash Davis from Bull Durham about hitting things with your pitching hand, but I do now. He seems like a smart guy”

A medical procedure
After an incident last year where a disgruntled wall ran into Royals pitcher John Bale, the always cutting edge Royals medical staff replaced his old arm with that of Gumbys arm.
Unbeknown to most Gumby did make it to AA level in the Braves farm system and had a mean side arm.
When asked about this radical procedure Dr. Bubba was quoted, " Well we just thought we needed Bale to come back as soon as possible with the most hyper-extendable arm in the majors, the gumby-graph allowed us to do both."
Interesting

Jim Abbot makes his triumphant return to the mound.....
testing Nick Swartz’s prosthetic elbow invention against major league competition for the first time Wed nite. Abbot worked one inning and was named the suprise 5th starter for the Royals weekend series in Pittsburgh. Abbot reported that he felt fine, and stated that it felt good to “clap for the first time in my life. Now I see what all the ruckus is about.” Abbott then proceeded to clap and giggle maniacally, pausing occasionally to work on pitch grips with Royals broadcaster Paul Splittorff, who is also working with a Swartz creation, the prosthetic gullet.
