Game 75 Open Thread - Twins (39-38) at Royals (32-42)

Minnesota Twins at Kansas City Royals, Jun 29, 2009 8:10 PM EDT

Tonight's pitching matchup is Nick Blackburn v Luke Hochevar.

The Twins play baseball the right way, or so I have been told.

This is a vital game

because if we lose tonight, we will lose the series. Seeing as we’ll have Gil Meche losing on Wednesday.

But Gil’s arm is fiiiiiine, he swears

BTW, Hosey is out of the lineup for a few days, so we’ll get a DDJ/Maier/Bloomquist outfield

Good thing we have Hernandez and Pena on the roster

I have a question for anyone that obviously knows more than me on the issue.....

Explain the DL. How can someone go on 15-day and be out for three months? What does it mean? If thats the case why isnt everyone on the 15-day DL? What do the different time lengths mean (15, 30, 60 day, etc)? This may be a dum question worth reaming me for but im genuinely interested.

15-day is at least 15 days

Oh I see. So its more of a minimum?

Does this explain why the majority are put on 15-day? So if thats correct why isnt any injured player put on the 15-day?

by 2LegittoShit on Jun 29, 2009 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions

for one

15 day DL guys are still on the 40 man, so there’s an unofficial minimum for that list. Also, if the injury is obviously season ending, you use the 60 day to open a roster spot on the 40 man

He might get hit #4 this week

since he’ll split starting time with his brother Luis Hernandez, seeing as Big Willie will be playing right field.

And the Twins are stupid if they don’t exploit Willie’s arm

He only has three hits?

I mean as pissed as all of us are about certain 25 man roster spots this is one that is really bad. How does this happen with him still having a spot? I bet some Japanese teams wouldnt take him.

by 2LegittoShit on Jun 29, 2009 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I bet the Japanese teams would not take him either

his swing is fearful and his plate approach is like the Marlboro Man; only fun without other people in the room because your smoke killed them

(trying some funny Engrish like joke, nonsensical and all, but for TPJ nonsensical makes sense)

starts off 0 for 11
breaks his hand
ends an 0 for 12 drought with a hit
goes 0 for 5
hits a double
goes hitless in 4 AB
gets a hit
and currently TPJ is on a 0 for 9 drought
