1) provides encouragement to slumping hitters (“I’m not as bad as TPJ”)

4) is having an affair with Dayton Moore
5) tells lots of hilarious Tony Pena stories to teammates to loosen them up

I’m not in the KC area anymore, but I tend to listen to 810 a couple of times a week and maybe half the games. I don’t get the impression Spork is anything more than a spare part in most people’s minds.

I don't think talk radio or the fans

are that fired up about the Spork. Unfortunately the FSN announcers love him, and Trey absolutely adores him, so we have to listen to all the on-air admiration to watch the game, and the man that gets the ultimate decision about lineups is gonna shove him down our throats.

I'm still not a true believer in Banny

but I still think this team has good enough pitching if the team could simply hit a freaking ball. This team for 3/4 of its entire history can.not.hit.a.damn.ball and this current team consistently squanders the precious baserunners they rarely get by boneheaded baserunning – in addition to the horrible hitting. I simply don’t understand why we can’t find decent hitting – ever.

we score 1 run every through the first 5 innings every game…we don’t even do that sometimes. We need Gordon to become Longoria or Zimmerman when he gets back

I don't know if he will hit for power

I think he will be more like that Ishikawa guy on the Giants…a little power, good OBP and acceptable defense

"Things could always be worse." - Buddy Bell

by buddyball on Jun 30, 2009 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well he's at a crossroads right now

he’s not hitting as well as last year. But if he can pull his average up from .270 to close to .300, even .290 you have to pull him up. Him and Gordon could change our lineup completely (against RH pitchers atleast)

by GobbleforCyoung on Jun 30, 2009 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

His BA is irrelevent

He is OBPing north of .400 and Slugging north of .500. Who gives a dam about his BA?

by kcbottom9th on Jun 30, 2009 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

I don't want to get into this again

Would you rather have Dunn (i’m not talking about power) and his .380 career OBP with a .250 BA or Ichiro and his .380 career OBP with a .333 BA? Base hits are more valuable than walks…that’s all I’m saying.

so it does matter…and it defintely matters when you are getting promoted a level and facing better pitchers. There are 100 minor league players with a .350 OBP in the minors.. If he can have a .350 OBP in the Majors then I’m all for it.

by GobbleforCyoung on Jun 30, 2009 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No they are not.

If you have an ISO like Kila’s, you don’t have to worry about your lack of jits. He is still getting plenty of bases.

by kcbottom9th on Jun 30, 2009 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

okay that's fine

he has good isolated power numbers

But is it wrong to say I want to see him produce at the same level he did last year??? Or see if he can come close before pulling him up

by GobbleforCyoung on Jun 30, 2009 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

For sure

But expecting to OPS above 1.000 is a tough ask. Mr Pujols never did it in the minors. He is is going at a .900 clip right now. That is excellent on its own, compared to Mike Jacobs it is positively Ruthian.

Kila isn’t a savior for this team. I don’t think anybody proclaims him to be. But at the very least he is an upgrade over Jacobs, and very likely a significant upgrade.
