MLB Draft Eve Links
First, a programming note. Tomorrow night, RR will be running the traditional draft day open thread alongside a separate Royals-Indians game thread. The game thread will likely be in the fanposts. Having two simultaneous threads may seem a little excessive, but I think it makes sense. Look for a post from nwroyal early on Tuesday, with both of us also trying to provide updates and links as the thing moves along.
As I said last year, while I really really hope that people are all over the fanposts and fanshots with their own links and analysis, please take 5 seconds to make sure someone hasn't posted the exact same thing already.
In the meantime, while we wait, here are some draft eve links.

I really hope the Nats do what someone suggested earlier:
Draft Strasburg, publicly offer a $10-12M take it or leave it offer, which would be nearly double the largest signing bonus in history.
If Strasburg takes it, they’ve got a great pitcher.
If he doesn’t take it, they’ve got pick 1 and 1a next year.
and then they can not sign their #9 pick or whatever
and have like 4 picks in the top 10 next year
I love it
(although I don’t think you can carryover a pick two years in a row..)
I believe that if the Nationals don't sign there second pick in the first round
they do not get an extra pick next year.

That's true
A team doesn’t want to miss out on signing that 1st pick because they would have absolutely no leverage the next season and would have to sign a signability pick for extra dough.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
It forces the team to draft a college player, most likely a senior right?
because a highschool player has the option to go to college and a junior can go back for his senior year.
But whatever, most kids won’t turn down 6-7 million unless they are stupid (like Aaron Crowe). Aaron Crowe went from being the best pitcher in the draft to the 3rd best (behind Strasburg and Alex White)
good one idiot

Hint: If you want to call someone an idiot, at least spell their name right
Kinda takes away from your credibility.

uhhh...Crow went from 9th pick overall to probable top 5....
how was this a bad thing? He was NEVER considered the best pitcher in lasst years draft. That was Brian Matusz for like two years

Does anyone know why Hosmer has not played the last two nights
and was pulled halfway through the game on Saturday?
hurt his finger
hurt his finger on his non-throwing hand—its been bothering him for a month
wanted to work with Daniel Gutierrez's trainer
either that or he misunderstood when he signed and thought he’d be the starting catcher for KC this season

This could be a very unusual draft with
some teams hurtin financially a weaker draft pool and a large group of talented international players. Could be a lot of signables takin in round 1.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
I'm still holding out hope that Jacob Turner falls to the Royals
If all else fails, stop using all else
I think there is a really good chance of that.
Don’t know if they will take him with his asking price but you never know.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
I think Det is really the only obstacle...
but as you said, I don’t know if the Royals would pull the trigger
If all else fails, stop using all else
Here's the Star's article:
Here’s the Star article:
It mentions that we are linked to Green—and Sanchez, Myers and Matzek (I can’t imagine that he would be available).
More interesting: it hits on the international market and that we are looking to spend big down there. We are interested in the top prospect—Sano (who is not projected to stay at SS)—but his agent and our man in the Dominican—Rene Francisco do not get along. So we will probably not sign Sano but may look at some other top shelf talent.
wow....awesome....
our top latin american guy is apparently a jackass…..that bodes well

Promising news on the Latin American front
I’m anxious about the draft. I think Green or Matzek would be a great get but Sanchez would be a huge reach and I’m not very high on Myers at all. There should be a good number of really good high school pitchers available at #12 – I really hope we take one.

Goldstein listed
Kyle Gibson or Tony Sanchez as possible options at 12

If Dayton Moron drafts another HS i'm going to flip
his first two picks are several years from the majors….he should be smart and draft a 22 year old who can make it to the majors in Sept 2010 and help us or 2011 the latest.
That way Moustaks, Hosmer and ? will all be contributing.
Still would rather have Wieters, Smoak and Green from USC
What if the 22 year old sucks?
Would you still like it then?
by I need more Esteban on Jun 9, 2009 10:38 AM EDT up reply actions
Matt Wieters, Gordon Beckham and Justin Smoak really do suck.
So does Longoria, LIncecum and A Miller.
I guess those franchises are stupid for picking MLB ready college players
We have one win in the past 10 games BTW and I guess sucky Hochevar had nothing to do with it right?
So what is your point? We took the wrong college player? Even the best HS arm in that draft (Kershaw) is struggling a bit.
Whats the point of drafting HS players that won’t make the majors until Meche is gone. That’s the point. Our window lasts to 2011 IMO

“He’s probably the college pitcher who’s closest to the big leagues,”
-Allard Baird, on Jeff Austin. Austin was taken over high schoolers Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez and C.C. Sabathia.

Me too
Although I thought their strategy was BLOODLINES.
Speaking of which, they signed Tim Raines Jr. last week.

They're alreadly scouting Larry Jones, Jr.
I’m guessing he’ll have a major-league contract by August
