Here's to hoping

Gil Meche makes me feel like I don’t know anything.

I’ve been skeptical of his readiness for today’s start. I hope he proves me wrong.

Yeah? From what I hear, you couldn't hit water if you fell out of a f@#%ing boat.

by BillyMojo on Jul 1, 2009 1:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm scared to death about his start.

Knowing our medical staff, he will be done for the year and it could possibly be career threatening….

But they left it up to Gil

A super-competitive, major league pitcher whose spent an entire life trying to work through pain wouldn’t pitch if he didn’t feel he was right, would he?

Yeah, it was a stupid screen name.

Trying not to think bad thoughts

But I have a bad feeling about this game. If Gil gets on the DL or out for the season after this game…
But then again, he might as well play like The Epic and make all the recent “Should Gil really start?” chatter all just a scare. Don’t hurt yourself, Gil.

Eh, my sig needs a little time off

BTW

Just read on the official site that Olivo got a 1 game suspension for bumping the ump on Saturday. Effective today if he doesn’t appeal…and it doesn’t look like he will……

Gil's next few starts appear to be:

July 6 @ Detroit
July 11 @ Boston
July 18 vs. Tampa

I impose a maximum of 90 pitches today and 100 next start. Then we have the all star break…. That gives him 7 days off during the all-star break. Don’t let him pick up a baseball.

two birds with one stone

hopefully, we can trade DDJ and his horrible baserunning for him

Maybe a blockbuster deal: Butler and DDJ for Hernandez and Francoeur.

Install Scott Thorman as full-time 1B, Jacobs at DH, Fancoeur and Guillen as outfield bookends for Mitch Maier…

although if MITCH continues to suck

we have to remember that Dayton Moore can completely make over this team from the disaster that was left behidn for him

although, to be fair, MITCH may start to hit and field well because of the new winning atmospher that Moore has brought to the Royals

Why is everyone putting everythign on the Meche injury?

Even if he gets hurt, and you add in Gordon, Crisp, Aviles, Farnsworth, Ponson, Waechter, Guillen… well, whya ren’t we talking about the majority the roster that hasn’t been on the DL so far this season.

Just more relentless negativity, I guess, from a group of so-called fans who will use any excuse, no matter how ill-founded, to go after the outstanding and daring leadership this team has in place.

For shame.

Shortstop Mike Aviles, Kansas City’s player of the year last season, will undergo Tommy John surgery and be sidelined for up to 12 months.

Manager Trey Hillman says Wednesday that Aviles will have ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow on July 8.

After struggling through the minor leagues for seven years, Aviles was brought up from Triple-A last season and hit .325, the best among major league rookies.

He struggled this year and went on the disabled list May 23 with what was described as right forearm strain.

So I've been going over BP's different baserunning stats for KC

overall, taking out steals, they’re actually “only” about the 4th worst team int he league. They aren’t hte worst in anything. The three teams that are worse at taking the extra base are:

Texas, Baltimmore (the worst), and….

The Royals front office and management towing the company line is like

that friend you had in grade school “No really guys I fell off my bike, that’s why I have those strange hand shaped bruises and my mom wears sunglasses to pick me up from practice at night.”

Gil is fine, Gordon’s coming along nicely, we’re gonna be competitive in 2009……

The denial is just becoming sickening.

anyone else notice that Joe Crede is having a great year?

He’s pretty much been league-average as a hitter, gbut he’s been a monster on defense — +11 runs so far. He’s 2.1 WAR so far. Even if he doesn’t play another game this season, the Twins got a great deal on that contract.

wel, for one thing, who cares about the MVP

Morneau should never have won that anyway… Ithoguht we were talking about actual quality of hitters…

Batting average is silly, too, although Brett won three crowns there, (and also an MVP)

Current wOBAs:

Mauer .470 (we’ll see what it is at the end of the season)
Morneau: .406

Royals 1980:
Brett: .479
Willie Wilson (1) .369
McRae: .366

Royals 1979
Brett: .402
Darrell Porter .398

Royals 1978
Brett .362
Otis .402

Royals 1977
Brett .388
Cowens and McRae .381

Royals 1976

And those were much more difficult run environments, too.

Royals 2000:
Sweeney .401 wOBA
DYE .403

2002:
Sweeney .412
