Various Yuniesky Betancourt hitting stats

2206 PAs total for Betancourt
266 PAs ended on the first pitch (12%)
293 PAs ended after 1-0 (13%)
339 PAs ended after 0-1 (15%)
258 PAs ended after 1-1 (12%)
181 PAs ended after 0-2 (8%)
90 PAs ended after 2-0 (4%)

so that's 64% of his PAs ending before the third pitch is thrown.

Angel Berroa has seen 3.51 pitches per PA in his career, Miguel Olivo has 3.57 pitches per PA in his career, Yuniesky has seen 3.21 per PA

Star-divide

35 of Betancourt's 70 walks came after a 3-0 count. Betancourt has 4 walks after going down 0-2. 36 of the 54 double plays that Betancourt grounded into were inning-ending double plays.

23 of Betancourt's PAs have ended after 3-0, and he drew 23 walks. So he has a first to look forward to in KC. He had 66 PAs go to 3-0. Which means that 23 of 66 times, he got the walk, and the rest of the time was a strike without being put in play.

Betancourt has 73 hits in 908 AB when hit to the infield, and 509 of 1009 hit to the outfield. Which means that if Betancourt hits it into the outfield, he has a 50/50 shot of getting on. If he hits it to the infield, he is going to make an out.

Betancourt has 817 groundballs, 723 flyballs, and 369 linedrives.

After four years of having a BA around .290 to .300 with balls hit in play, Yuniesky's BA with BIP this year is .265. If his BIP BA was .300, it would have led to 7 more hits, and a 2009 BA of .281 instead of .250

But here's a fact that defies logic. Betancourt has hit better in Safeco than on the road.

So, what is the origin of the name Yuniesky anyways?
