Brilliant, Just Brilliant.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I now realize why Mellinger probably takes it easy. If he gets banned from whatever it actuallly effects his job.
But this is just another embarrassing incident for the Royals. If Dayton had anything to do with it, he’s absolutely out of chances with me (and yes, I realize how much that matters).
Utterly classless. They won’t even respond? Not even a Mike Gundy-esque rant with Rany in the room?
If they think this is going to help anything…
I’m guessing that JoPo has written his last “Dayton Moore is super smart” column for a while.

I don't really get what he means by banned?
Can he not attend games at all? How on earth can they enforce that? Have his picture at gates “DO NOT SERVE THIS MAN!”

It's simply a symbolic and pathetic gesture on the part of a gutless and inept organization
that cannot handle even the slightest harsh criticism about an obvious problem.

In a way, it's even more shocking
that they would even “allow” Baseball Prospectus to have an event there.
Ironic, too, since BP is barely more sabermetric than the Royals front office at this point.
I can put that aside for now. I’m guessing all hell is going to break loose (relatively speaking) as Neyer, Pos, etc. get wind of this.
This will not end well for the Royals.

What a completely classless failure of an organization.
They should feel BLESSED at how soft the Kansas City media is. The franchise has spiraled out of control and nobody has really held them accountable.
And why was Rany banned? Because he advocated an out of shape athletic trainer be fired for a 19-year track record of failure? Forget the fact that he didn’t even point out that he is morbidly obese; I didn’t even think Rany’s column was that harsh.
I certainly, certainly hope this is a move by a Glass family member and not a decision made by Dayton Moore or anyone on his staff. Or maybe I do hope it was a Moore decision, because that might end the honeymoon he is still unbelievably on with the Kansas City media.
Think about it. I love some of the writers in this city, but we have to be the softest media on the planet. JoPo admits to going 10+ games without watching the Royals, taking massive vacations in the middle of the season. Whitlock could NOT care less about baseball. Dutton is a PR machine and Mellinger is an apologist.
Shame on the Kansas City Royals.

And while I never would have banned Fescoe
if I were the Royals, his semi-ridiculous, little-more-than-purely-antagonizing, almost-rhetorical “questions” were certainly more worthy of a ban than Rany’s very rational, well-reasoned, and supported blog post.

Totally classless.
As I commented on Rany’s blog, the one good thing (other than the beauty of Kauffman Stadium) that people have always felt they could say about the Royals was that they had class. Now, unless someone higher up than the blacklister comes forward to undo this, the Royals have lost that as well.

Open Post to the Royals Organizastion and Personal Resignation as a Fan
I am extremely disappointed in the Royals’ response to Rany Jazayerli’s blog post of June 24, 2009. Blacklisting Rany Jazayerli from Kauffman Stadium is fundamentally upsetting to me. This shows a lack of class and lack of respect for the basic right of free speech, and the Royals’ response should be protested.
I would have been able to tolerate, even understand, a response of blacklisting someone if Rany Jazayerli were employed or associated with the Royals in any professional capacity. But he’s not. Rany identifies himself on his blog as a dermatologist, blogger, and Royals fan. For years he’s been extremely articulate, incisive, and at times, critical of the Kansas City Royals organization from an outsider’s perspective, and my personal fandom of the Royals has been made all the better by his independent contributions to discussions of my most beloved sports franchise. It is very sad to hear that as a result of his love for the Royals (admittedly, sometimes a "tough love" as in his 6/24/2009), the powers that be have deemed him a pariah.
I’ve been a Royals fan all my life, but this lack of acceptance of freedom of speech by the Royals offends me as a person and citizen of this country. It’s not about whether Nick Swartz should be fired or not. At this point, I could care less, because freedom of speech comes first for me, before fandom. In result, it pains me to say this but I am no longer a fan of the Royals until they issue Rany a public apology. As such, I will no longer provide any support to the Royals – whether that be be monetary, emotionally, and sadly, contributing to this website.
The Royals’ front office response to Rany fundamentally offended my sense of right and wrong, and I will not sacrifice that for anyone, even the franchise that I have loved for so long. It’s time to move on. I wish the Royals all the best, and I extend a warm thank you to all of the contributors to Royals Review. This is an excellent online community and it saddens me to leave it. Hopefully, this will not be a permanent self-imposed exile.

This is an excellent online community – the Royals have such a wealth of intelligent and thougtful fans, it amazes me that so many bright people have been able to tolerate so many years of managerial and company executive ineptitude. But alas, that’s part of being a fan, and I have such a deep respect for you all. It really saddens me to leave this behind. Hopefully, this will not be a permanent self-imposed exile.

I'm taking a different approach but I agree with you DCRoyal. Note revised sig line.
I’m not going to stop watching and being a fan of MY team. I’m going to complain and bitch until they trot out their scapegoat sacrificial lamb in this debacle.
Not like I’m a drop in the bucket. I don’t contribute more than slightly to their revenue. I watch games on television, and listen on the radio, and occasionally buy products from ‘sponsors’ but not intentionally. I don’t attend games at the K. So, why should the organization care?
I do agree DC. This is clearly an issue of right and wrong. This is my chosen path, I will continue to be a ‘fan under protest’.
I’ve been in that state anyway in general for MLB ever since Bud Selig cancelled the World Series.
The Royals Front Office Is An Embarrassment to the Constitution of The United States of America. Specifically for blacklisting Rany. I am a fan under protest and I request an apology and withdrawal of this outrage.

New sig noted
And while I agree that the Royals have made a serious error here, I think it falls short of a constitutional issue. The First Amendment limits what the government can do, not what other entities can do.
I value freedom of expression beyond the limits to its abridgment in the First Amendment, so I’m completely in accord with this protest. I just think it’s better to omit the Bill of Rights in discussion of it.

Yeah I went a little overboard there to state my point
and I knew it when I did it.
Exaggeration is sometimes the key to effectiveness.
If you ask for 100% sometimes you get 10%, so ask for 10x what you really want, then you may have more chance of getting 100%.

I agree with this letter
Thanks for posting it, perhaps we can glean some thoughts and ideas down from this so that we can further the onslaught of mal-e-mails to the Royals.
This is utterly ridiculous. So the organization spends time looking for what fans are writing about the team, on blog sites. Rather than, oh I don’t know, running a professional baseball team!!!!
Then furthering the redicul-osity by actually banning a person (from what? watching the ineptitude) because he brought up a rather obvious albeit heated point and concern about the training staff.
A pox on this organization. Run a team, worry about what people say if they are unfounded, unwarranted, very public, and non-professional. None of these qualifiers was the case in Ranys blog.
For Shame Royals. For shame.

Dayton Moore was right:
we have to be better fans. And if you think about it, who else is responsible. David Glass had been a model owner. We have a great manager. Dayton Moore has assembled an extremely talented team with no help at all fro the previous administrations picks. The trainer is outstanding — he’s even a doctor, which almost two decades of experience serving the Royals.
The only possible source of the Royals problems is the fans, I guess.

Rany just updated the blog:
Just to be clear here, since I think everyone’s taking my words a little too literally: I don’t think I’ve been “banned” in the sense that they’re going to have security guards outside the stadium making sure that I don’t buy a ticket. It does mean that the Royals have cut off any access I may have from the team for my radio show, and – this is critical – have intimated that any other radio show which has me on as a guest faces the same penalty.
I see this as the equivalent of having my media credentials taken away, except of course that I don’t have media credentials, and the Royals have made it clear they don’t give media credentials to bloggers.
