Game 78 Open Thread - White Sox (40-38) at Royals (33-44)

Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals, Jul 2, 2009 8:10 PM EDT

Damn it's been a weird day. Apparently, the games will go on, however.

Bruce Chen versus Mark the Unspellable. Love it.

Be sure to check out the latest Royals Prospect Pulse by nwroyal in case you missed it. It's actually baseball-related.

Still suffering from the greatest robbery of all time: The stealing of the 1994 AL Central title from the Royals

and yes

the Royals best BA/OBP guy is batting 8th, the Royals best power guy is batting 6th, and Bloomy, DDJ, and Jose will anchor the offense

No worries

when you have TPJ, TPJJ, and TugPJ all available to pinch-hit.

by 2X2L on Jul 2, 2009 7:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So stupid....

That and the sinking ship Willie Gritquist is still batting second instead of maybe giving Teahen a shot at the 2 slot. It couldnt hurt. And correct me if im wrong but Beurhle is a lefty! Why the fuck is Jacobs playing? B Pena DH please! So shitty

by 2LegittoShit on Jul 2, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jacobs batted 5th against Buerhle in April

now, DDJ batting leadoff NO MATTER WHAT… that’s fucking stupid

by BHWick on Jul 2, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You guys have to admit that Jacobs should not be in the lineup. Period

I could care less what happened in April. That was when we hoped he would help, not destroy, the middle of the order. And I agree with the DDJ comment though

by 2LegittoShit on Jul 2, 2009 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

batting 7th is not as dumb as batting 5th

and Trey put Jacobs in the cleanup spot against John Danks.

Anyways.. the bench has to be leaving Trey paranoid about losing the DH if anything happens to Olivo

Still suffering from the greatest robbery of all time: The stealing of the 1994 AL Central title from the Royals

by BHWick on Jul 2, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ok well that makes a little more sense

But it also speaks volumes about how shitty this team is that they dont have a better option at DH than Cheek Cancer himself

by 2LegittoShit on Jul 2, 2009 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

unless i'm forgetting someone

the 4 man bench of Brayan, Louis Hernandez, Tug, and Teflon TPJ has to rank up there as the worst possible bench you could have.

I wouldn’t bring 3 of those 4 in to pinch hit, or as a defensive replacement

Still suffering from the greatest robbery of all time: The stealing of the 1994 AL Central title from the Royals

by BHWick on Jul 2, 2009 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Would it be possible to send Tug on my nuts down

and bring up another catcher. Even one that is shitty just so we could maximize B Penas offense against lefties without worrying about Olivo getting tossed/hurt? I mean if tug hulett can be on this roster whats the prob with giving some other nobody catcher an opportunity to maximize the little offensive potential we could have with B Pena every other day or whatever. This might be crazy but at this point why not?

by 2LegittoShit on Jul 2, 2009 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Touche.....

But do you see my point? I mean it would provide a little more pop and versatility for this anemic, at best, offense.

You'd better hang around Atlanta

for a few months first and get the accent right. That would get you a at least a 3-year guaranteed contract. Small things like that could add up to big money.

by hunter s. royal on Jul 2, 2009 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I guess, but…

Let me say first that I’ve only driven through Atlanta once and know zip about the area, so I won’t say a word against it. But as it’s unfamiliar territory to me, to make the adjustment I’m going to need some companionship.

So can I get an advance to cover the Holy Babe Dating Service that sometimes advertises on this site? That’s probably on the front office-approved list, no?

on further review

the A’s have put Giambi in the cleanup spot. Giambi is hitting .199 with 11 HRs.

See, there ARE worse cleanup spot options than Mike Jacobs.

Giambi, Nomar, Orlando Cabrera, Adam Kennedy.. the 2009 A’s would have been all-stars in 2003

1. This is are a TERRIBLE base-running team. No, seriously, terrible, horrible, one of the worst in memory. According to the Bill James base running numbers (which you will recall simply measure going first to third, second to home, first to home and various bases taken and baserunning mistakes), the Royals are a minus-74 base running team this year. MINUS-74 in only 75 games. No other team is even close (Padres are -39). In fact, the worst base-running team since 2002, when Bill and the guys started keeping this stat, is the 2003 Brewers, who were minus-91. The Royals might get there by the All-Star Break.

i got recruited to coach a 9-10 yr old team this summer,

that didn’t win any games last year. I’ve seen tons of insane stuff so far this year (not touching home when scoring on a passed ball, a runner getting called out for simply stepping off the base after sliding in on a pick-off throw, a runner hitting a shot down the line but slowing up bc he thinks it’s foul & getting thrown out, not knowing to scoot back in the box against a hard throwing pitcher, etc etc)
………………………, but even we have never done what the Royals just did.

Never that close, but I was duly impressed at fifteen feet. I was in a canoe just off the shore of a lake, and the moose was standing in the trees on the bank, in Algonquin National Park. Any time someone says Kila has slow bat speed or rips another player because “scouts are down on him,” I’m going to remember that this stupid boob actually IS a scout, and I actually heard him refer to Kila on the Royals Pregame show as “Er, that um, Hawaiian Guy…”
