Late Night Royals Links: Rainout Edition
Don't be stunned if Moore makes a massive deal someday that features one of our top prospects, even Moose, Hosmer or Crow/Crowe (making no effort to learn how to spell it at this point). As Talking Chop points out below, the Braves have quite consistently traded #1 picks this decade. Moreover, as we've already seen, Moore hasn't exactly been shy when it comes to trading young players/prospects.

I thought this was a good post on Upon Further Review:
Royals Bad Bullpen is Too Expensive
Of course, that’s been said here for 6 months.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.
This is the actual headline:
“‘I suck’ and am ‘embarrassed by the money I am making’”
-Article on Hoagie from the Star: http://www.kansascity.com/385/story/1336679.html
it is nice that he is honest
although not everyone is sucking right now.
"Things could always be worse." - Buddy Bell
Yeah, Jose has always been accountable.
Just not very productive for the Royals.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.
"Sometimes, I feel I should take money out of my own pocket and buy tickets for every fan. Because you know what? For a $12 million man, these are not the numbers you should be expecting. I admit it. I’m not playing to my potential."
Sounds like they should have a day where all the tickets that haven’t been bought will be available at the ticket window for free courtesy of Jose Guillen
Enough is Enough - Fire Trey Hillman
So
which poor minor league team is going to make Jose Guillen their manager?
Such a mix of volcanic fury and knowledge of the game = hilarity
Enough is Enough - Fire Trey Hillman
Guillen for player-manager right now!
Couldn’t be any worse than how things are now, and at least would be hilarious.

how about player-manager-GM?
"The life of a (Royals) fan must be lived forward but can only be understood backward" -- Kierkegaard (more or less)
Christ almighty,
This hilarious article is just the perfect capper to this trainwreck of a season. Just, wow.

This Is Beautiful
"At 3.93 runs a game," Hillman said, "I don’t think we can afford to do that. And with his propensity to play through nags, just being honest, I don’t think that would go over too well."
Bloomers is doing better than Hoagy. You don’t hurt the team by benching/DL’ing someone who is , by his own admission, hurt and sucking. If he bitches, DFA him. He’s only money at this point.

yup
as with everything it comes to to performance. It’s nice to see that Hoagy realizes the truth, to a certain extent (although he seems to have picked up a bit on the leadership’s injuries-aren’t-an-excuse-but-boy-there-sure-have-been-a-lot-of-injuries-itis).
Still, as I tweeted (suicide now), I prefer the Hoagy who’s a jerk and hits to the reasonable, crappy Hoagy.

moreover
his contract isn’t his fault. He isn’t “stealing” form anyone, unless he signed the contract under some sort of false assumptions or lied. If he did, the Royals could get out of it. He’s available to polay and not trying to get out of it or anything. I really dislike the “stealing money” reference ot a player who is underperforming. Yes, guaranteed contracts mean that relative to the market, many players are overpaid for their performance. Guess what? relative to market, before FA they are almost always grossly underpaid. Yes, that’ s what they agreed to…. and the later, overpriced vet contracts are what the teams agreed to, as well.

Yes, its the complete oppositte of the NFL
To be fair there is a greater probability of career ending injury so it makes sense for younger guys to get paid more, but both sports need to a regression to the mean as far as players salaries

Speaking doubleheaders
If my seat I got for tomorrow night is taken, I’m throwing em off the upper deck, row A seats.
The last four surviving Royals fans await their fate in the rain at Kauffman Stadium for a baseball game between the Kansas City Royals Los Angeles Angels to begin Monday, July 20, 2009, in Kansas City, Mo.
sucks that the rest of the fans died
BTW, I don’t know who this Jorge De La Rosa is who I saw pitching for the Rockies, is he any good?
Enough is Enough - Fire Trey Hillman
obviously not
or else he would be pitching for the Royals

I know he’s rehabbing… but what did he do? I don’t remember seeing that injury anywhere…
Coffee. The NEW Performance Enhancing drug for Sport's Writers. Just ask Ken Rosenthal.
i’m wondering if maybe he’s seriously considering it and they’re leaving his name on the rosters to leave the door open for a return, maybe next season?

Oh boy a doubleheader means
twice the educating from Trey! It’s like getting an MBA in one day….
probably a good day to get a foul ball or HR
At least the first game.
Do they do BP before DH’s? If so, I may drive up there….

I believe they do
Also they are giving out the shirts before the first game and the leftovers before the 2nd, good chances for me to get it now.

they’re down 12-5 in the 3rd.
Hope they put their closer in soon

I wouldn't mind giving them the opportunity to blow a lead that big though...
If only we could score 12 runs in 3 innings… Have we scored 12 runs in a game this year?

are very distressing, moose in particular. it seems like he’s taking an oh-fer every night with at least one K.

Why do you think they would be good at getting on base?
Moore selected them what did you expect?
It’s not like Matusz or Bumgarner throw a shutout every other game or anything. Oh wait, Bumgarner does, and Matusz has 3 shutouts in 5 AA starts.
Well whatever, it’s not like Smoak and Posey have been promoted to AAA yet.
Oh shit

not to mention wieters, longoria, porcello…

Im not gonna lie...
This really makes me like Guillen a little. I really hope he goes on a one of his redonkulous streaks of his.

There are people who need to say something like this more than Guillen
the funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it!
