Ponson & Chen Not as Incredibly Horrible as Expected, But Royals Swept Anyway

I think the Angels just scored again.

And congrats to Soria on another brilliant mopup performance. When this guy starts warming up, you can just mark it down as a win... for the other team. Soria has appeared in tied and one-run games six times total. He's also appeared in games with a four-run difference or larger seven times. But hey, you can make the numbers say anything.

I'm thinking we lose 100 this year

At the rate we’re going it’ll just get worse when we ship Teahen/DDJ off for a worse player.

Notes from the park

01) $4 drinks, fuck you!
02) Yes, some people were doing the wave while Tejada was unraveling in the 7th
03) Yes, Trey put Robinson out for like 40 pitches after he hadn’t pitched for a week
04) The High Five video is only lame if you ignore the subtle homoerotic stalking angle of the video
05) Juan Cruz sucks and the fans don’t like him very much
06) Jose Guillen managed to not suck and he avoided some booing
07) Plastic beer bottles = less suicides at Royals games
08) Trey Hillman is a fucking moron
09) Cranium Cam is freaky
10) My seats sucked for 2 1/2 innings (row HH) then I got down to row B in the Upper Deck
11) I bailed in the bottom of the 7th

More Bell/Hillman fun

remember how Allard’s 2006 signings were not brilliant, but were genius compared to Dayton’s 2008-09 offseason?

Yeah… remember how Allard got (rightly) ripped for the uninspired (to say the least) Bell hire?

So Dayton then gets a bigger budget and goes all the way to Japan to get his man to replace Bell…

I think that pretty much explains itself.

It was just as horrible as I expected. Our bullpen is as horrific as it has ever been in the seven years I’ve been following baseball regularly. I think at this point I’d even take the Camp-to-Field combo over Wright-to-Cruz.

Has anyone discovered why Jogui Wheelz was playing RF, Teahen 1B and Butler DH in game 1? I’m assuming it is to show off Teahen’s abilities at 1B to an interested team, but that Guillen bobble really got things off on the wrong foot.

Posnanski has been on Trey's mistakes since last Sept.

but these latest comments… I really think he’s in shock.

I mean, he called DMGM’s moves “loony.” That’s tantamount to a 5,000 word call for a firing from JoPo.

I think he’s just too nice to talk about the “educate” comments. I mean, what “balanced” take on that could a guy possibly offer? I don’t even think that Poz can’t even get it up to write an article about Trey at this point, since I don’t think he could even say “Trey’s got potential to e a good manager” anymore, and you know he has to say stuff like that.

So... is the In Dayton We Trust guy mad at "us"

or is he in agreement and pretty embarrassed right now?

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.

Epic pitching fail

guess when this happened

Enough is Enough - Fire Trey Hillman

by BHWick on Jul 22, 2009 1:19 AM EDT reply actions

OK, so pitch 5 has got to be the wild wild pitch that led to the 4th run of game 1. 3rd inning, yes?

by 2X2L on Jul 22, 2009 1:23 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah

I was there, I didn’t realize it bounced off the freaking backstop and back to Sidney

then again, I was in really crappy seats in front of a beam

I was listening on XM Radio in the car when that happened, driving through San Francisco. Davis’s description of it was pretty clear and immediate — the only thing about it I didn’t get from it was that it wasn’t just way over Olivo’s head but also way outside.

Usually when a pitch slips out of somebody’s hand that badly it loops way off into the weeds somewhere, but this one had something on it, enough to bounce back off the backstop to Ponson. Weird.

cleanup spot hitting, 2009, going into tonight

Guillen: 209/278/339, 194 PA, 37 for 177, 6 HR, 20 RBI
Jacobs: 178/275/244, 102 PA, 16 for 90, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Teahen: 200/273/225, 44 PA, 8 for 40, 4 RBI

Thought this was interesting.

http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/scoreboard?date=20090721

Game 1, top left: The Royals are “sliding.”

Game 2, bottom left: The Royals are “hapless.”

From “sliding” to “hapless” in three hours! Only in Kansas City.

Rangers, Royals, Raiders, Knicks...the man loves a winner.
