Quite a few people in Royals gear here at Camden- like 1 in 20 maybe

Not bad for being a bad team in a city 20 hours away, as the car drives.

Also, walking around town today, we kept getting asked (politely) if we were going to the game tonight. We weren’t near the harbor (and, by extension, the stadium) either.

The Orioles and Royals fan bases both continue to impress me, each in their own ways.

...and after checking...

though he doesn’t have enough innings to qualify… He is averaging over 2 HR’s per 9 innings pitched… and since you asked Greinke is giving up 0.35 HR’s/9

Desperately hoping for Desperate Measures

by averagegatsby on Jul 27, 2009 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

hmm...

the worst HR/FB% in baseball among qualified starters is actualy Rich Porcellos as almost 20%. But that’s HR/FB rate… and that’s just an indicator of luck, since most pitchers regress to about 12%.

Worst HR/9 is Braden Looper… (1.8)

Ah, but as said above, Chen doesn’t qualify, He’s worse than Looper at 2.08/9, but unlike Porcello, he isn’t having bad luck. Indeed, he’s right at average: 11.5%.

So, in conclusion, he sucks.

he knows the zone fasho, but seems like he could take a few more strikes, fi that makes sense — the ones he can’t drive as well.

Whatever, it’s not like they should be tinkering with his approach. he is what he is at this point.

You think they should re-sign him? It seems like they might have an Izzy-in-training in Robert Andino. It’s a question worth asking – the O’s could have the best pitching in the AL East in 2011.

"Could," while not extremely likely

The O’s group of starting prospects is one of the more impressive groups in baseball. Chris Tillman from the Bedard deal looks like a front of the rotation guy. Bergesen’s already up and looking solid. Same with David Hernandez. Then you get to Arrieta, Matusz, Patton, etc. They could have half of these guys totally flop and still make out well on the pitching side in the next couple years. And the crazy thing is, NONE of them are flopping right now.

"Do they have people that tall in Mexico?"

by NHZ on Jul 27, 2009 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Tillman's on my fantasy team

the Os are scary… Kinda curious about what their IF will look like in a couple years with Mora and Huff gone (big loss, I know) and Roberts in his mid-30s

by Matt Klaassen on Jul 27, 2009 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Mora'd already be gone

if it weren’t for his trade clause. I think the O’s should seriously look into Beltre this next off-season, as they have a big hole at 3B in the organization. Huff’s lukewarm production could easily be replaced, maybe even by Brandon Snyder. Yes, I’m a Sox fan, but I’d REALLY like to see a competitive O’s team again. It sucks that such a proud franchise got destroyed in the late 90s when baseball was booming.

The Al East is just crazy now, and will be

If J.P. could keep his foot out of his mouth, people would recognize that he’s actually done a pretty amazing job, given the situation. Yes, the Wells contract was bad… but still (and some up here think that wasn’t his call to make).

5 good organizations.

It's just a shame J.P.'s built a team

that could kick ass in any other division. I actually see the O’s poised to pass them in the next couple years. The Rays might have topped out in 2008 barring any major changes, but they’ll still be around. Red Sox and Yankees have a ton of money they can throw at whatever problems they have.

"Do they have people that tall in Mexico?"

by NHZ on Jul 27, 2009 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions

the Os will pass them next season

unless J.P. can find a bunch of other league average replacements in the Northern Leagues.

Without Halladay… yikes

Sky is right: they should simply trade Halladay and Wells together for a bag of balls. At least they’d have room.

I wonder who’s going to give Marco Scutaro too much money? Great signing by JP. I wonder if teams have wised up, though?

I just don’t see a perfect storm situation where they pass the Yanks and Red Sox happening again in the near future. Baltimore’s young pitching, on the other hand, REALLY scares me. They already have a pretty good line-up that could be a top unit if they make the right FA decisions.
