No, I don't think [Soria's] out there. The only Royals that are out there that I've heard are Juan Cruz and Ron Mahay - at prices that are turning people off. Bannister to some extent. Willie Bloomquist, believe it or not. And they're listening on Teahen and Dejesus, but probably not much more than listening.

I don't believe we will see a trade this week

DM does not want to be a seller, he is under pressure to win games now and avoid a humiliating record.

I wondered about them trying to wait a few weeks and see if they could win some games

and then trying the waiver trade. That seems like a tough go because the guys who have a little value are cheap and could be claimed by a lot of teams.

He can get 4, NOT 5.

You know what this sounds like?

This sounds just like Chuck LaMar in Tampa Bay. Sure, he’ll trade for the future, but asks for way to much for veterans he’s overvalued.

He should take whatever someone offers him for Mahay

Cruz he can afford to overvalue because he isn’t paid much, and hasn’t shown physical signs of slowing down, he’s just not very pinpoint. Well, OK, he’s throwing the ball down the middle of the fucking plate, but he’s a pitcher that can easily rebound.

Willie B he can afford to overvalue a little bit as well., becuase he is relatively cheap next year.

Bannister should be drastically overvalued.

DDJ & Teahen won’t net enough of a return to warrant trading them IMO

BOOM! ROASTED!

Just curious

what would you see as adequate return on DDJ and/or Teahen?

I’m not sure myself… I guess I need to mess with Sky’s trade value calculator. I’m always a bit leery on how to value prospects.

i would think

a similar but younger player in AAA, maybe?

one big reservation i have about trading either of them is that they are guys who can get on base and have patience at the plate, and are relatively cheap. i almost think you don’t trade them unless you get more than one player back, and in that case it would need to be two A-ball players that would be a long ways out but that have potential.

i'd want the highest ceiling a ballers we can get....

so that if they do pan out, they’re coming up with the wilmington wave

Well

My oversimplistic approach to it, is I would need to get someone that could produce at an above average level for at least 3 years in KC since both have 3 years of team control left (I believe that is correct).

Unless I am going to get more than that, I don’t really see the point to trade either of those guys, and I don’t think any team really covets either of them to the point of giving up 2 prospects (or more) that project to be > League Average.

I feel pretty confident in DDJ & Teabag’s ability to maintain > Average production throughout those 3 years (DDJ will be getting up there in years by then, and I’d be more inclined to trade him).

BOOM! ROASTED!

Hmmm

I’ve always been a fan of both DDJ and Teahen, but given that DDJ is 30 next season I think I’d be more likely to see DDJ as being average to above average in 2010, and below average-to-average in 2011

Teahen is more like a league average player now — his defense at 3B negates the value he gains there over the OF, and he’s an average hitter and (I’d say) an average defender in the outfield. He’s younger than DDJ though, so he probably isn’t going to be declining as rapidly.

yeah

which makes him more valuable to the Royals, but also gives him more value as a trade chip

Clearly, Moore sees the team

as closer to contention than most of us on RR do – hence the lack of any real interest in moving Bannister, DDJ, & Teahen. (Remember, the company line is that injuries derailed the season)

I’d be OK with that position IF the minor league talent was closer to the majors; i.e., in AA or AAA instead of concentrated in the lower levels, OR if the cheapass owner would commit to bumping his payroll up to $100 million where it belongs next year, thus bridging the timegap between the current core (Greinke, Meche, Banny, Soria, Butler, Gordon, Teahen, DDJ) and the next wave of prospects.

Hmm

You know, I bet Teahen would love moving to a place just an hour away from his old college…

I have no doubt that the Royals have some pieces

That interest other teams, and get back some decent returns. I also have no doubt that Dayton’s complete misjudgment of the value other teams’ players is repeated with his own, and so nothing will happen.

should we be interested in Sanchez?
