He can’t really play the outfield anymore, and NL teams don’t carry pinch hitters anymore, so I’m thinking AL teams only would even be tempted.
But his bat is so slow now, and he’s so clearly into the serious decline phase of his career, that I think it takes a Swartzian rash of injuries somewhere to open up a spot for him.
That is the problem
with being a small market team with a cheap owner. A bigger (or better run) team would just say OOPS, we F’d up and release him and take the salary hit. The Royals will keep him until he dies when a ball finally hits him in the noggin.
Is it safe?

Danks was good…….we swung at too many pitches out of the zone…..didn’t “square up” the ones that were in the zone………
Greinke had good velocity and good movement……pitches just were getting too much of the plate……took him out after 80-some pitches because we were already down and the offense wasn’t showing any signs of life…….wants to protect the investments of him and Meche now that we’re getting to the mid-point of the season…..thought the bullpen was rested enough to keep it close if the offense could mount a comeback.
