Catching up with Royals Alumni

Here goes. No current major league players will be mentioned in this post. Some retired players have jobs that are obvious to us.

Jose Lima is pitching for the Long Beach Armada and singing Skynyrd in LAX.

Felix Jose is a Schaumburg Flyer. Mark Davis is the pitching coach for the Arizona Rookie League Royals.

Carlos Febles is the Salem Red Sox hitting coach. Aside from trying to ruin Wilmington's pitchers, he also gets ejected from games.

Michael Tucker was released by the Newark Bears and Royals legend Brent Abernathy was released by the Camden Riversharks. (source)

Dan Reichert is a Bridgeport Bluefish. Josh Newman is a Camden Rivershark. Neal Musser is a Lancaster Barnstormer. Alberto Castillo and Felix Martinez are Newark Bears. Michael Tucker bounced back from his release by the Bears to become a South Maryland Blue Crab. Michael Tucker's teammate is Royals legend Ken Harvey. The Blue Crabs won the first half of their division and they know the only way to lock down a strong second half showing is by bringing in as many members of the 2003 Kansas Royals as possible. Former Royal and current Blue Crab Jimmy Serrano is continuing a proud 2000s Royals tradition by serving nobly on the disabled list. If you loved average late 1990s/early 2000s players, you'll love the Atlantic League.

Star-divide

Former Royal Morgan Burkhart is managing the Calgary Vipers of the Golden Baseball League. Other former Goldern Baseball alums include Paul Abbott, Rusty Meacham, Felix Jose (who has played in every baseball league on earth), and Kung-fu black belt Mark Quinn.

Steve Balboni is running a baseball school. Luis Alicea is the Mets 1st base coachJermaine Allensworth parlayed his notoriety from being portrayed on SNL (and 2 years as a Royal) into a stint in the Northern League. Carmelo Martinez is the Cubs Latin American Field Coordinator. While Rusty Meacham is no longer the pitching coach for the Vermont Lake Monsters, noted villain Matt LeCroy is managing the Hagerstown Suns. Julius Matos is the hitting coach for the Tampa Yankees. Super Joe McEwing is managing the Winston-Salem Dash. Tom Prince is managing the GCL Pirates.

Runelvys Hernandez is pitching for the Samsung Lions in South Korea. I don't have to understand much Korean to know that he has a 5.70 ERA. Ryan Braun just finished up a stint of striking out 12 in 10 innings as a member of the Bristol White Sox. Dee Brown is in the A's system, Emil Brown is in the Mets system, Angel Berroa is in the Mets system. Mendy Lopez is on the disabled list down in Mexico.

There's more, i'm sure

Thanks!

Love these updates on our former heroes!

I think I pull for Musser and Emil the most in this list.

Rec'd

I was watching a game on ESPN and they were raving about Luis Alicea being a solid fundamental baseball player. I remember Luis Alicea as being the fattest, worst defensive second baseman I had ever seen. He made Alberto Callaspo look like Frank White.

Eduardo Villacis

might be coaching somewhere, but he’s not with the Casper Ghosts any more.

And there is no reason to avoid mentioning the Vermont Lake Monsters in a post
