Lineups for the Royals HOF Classic
Players for the Royals (so far): Willie Wilson (OF), Amos Otis (OF), John Mayberry (1B), Fred Patek (SS), John Wathan (C), Frank White (2B), Steve Busby (P), Dennis Leonard (P), Paul Splitorff (P), Jeff Montgomery (P)
So we're lacking a 3rd baseman and one outfielder at the moment. But then again, we're carrying three starting pitchers for an exhibition. No word on if Joe Randa can be lured to play in this game. I'd urge Bo Jackson to emerge from his mahogany boardroom to be the DH.
Maybe the Royals can find someone to play third base.
And the Former Major Leaguers (so far): Bert Campaneris (SS), Bob Dernier (CF), George Foster (LF), Randy Hundley (C), Todd Hundley (C), Fergie Jenkins (P), Ron Robinson (P), Dave Stewart (P), John Warden (P)
So at least our roster construction is a bit better at the moment. The Tampa Bay Rays can't spare any legends for the Former Major Leaguers team? Neifi Perez is too busy? Luis Rivas too busy with the Iowa Cubs to make it? The former major leaguers are scared to face Team Royals Legends.
These lineups may be different, as they come from a February press release. Not that I would suggest that Bob Dernier might be running scared. But, you never know.
The game will be on Friday, July 17th, before the Royals/Rays game.

Dernier lives in KC area, I think...
somehow our tiny school about an hour away from KC got him to come in for an assembly when I was in high school. I guess he was good friends with a parent in the district who met/knew him through the KC casinos. Anyway, I dug up some old baseball cards I had of his (since I had no idea who he was) for him to sign, and he also brought his Gold Glove and passed it around for all of the students to try on if they wanted! It was pretty sweet to say you’ve worn an official MLB Gold Glove when you’re an 18 yr old kid.

Heck, Dernier's FROM KC.
Born in KC, played at Longview. Yet another one the Royals let slip away from their own back yard!

From Blue Springs
I went to baseball camp with his son one year.
Where are the other KC residents? Joe Carter? Rick Sutcliffe? David Segui?

idk if the FML team wants to get linked to Segui
although Segui would provide some juice to their lineup.
Sutcliffe is getting back in touch with some local things (such as having the street outside of Van Horns baseball field named after him)
there was probably a case for trying to sign Joe Carter a few times in the mid-1990s (and idk, maybe Carter was on the KC radar screen before the 1993 WS)

Forget the HOF game
instead, just have the HOFamers play the current Royals – that might be revealing, even at their advanced ages…
Mr Glass, this is a pro sports team, not a retail store - run it like one!
