my failed attempt to scout the Chukars and...
I realized early this week that the Casper Ghosts, in Casper, Wyo. were hosting the Idaho Falls Chukars for five games. Seeing that it's the closest baseball field filled with non-high school players to my home, my wife and I hopped in the car for a three-hour drive to catch a double-header on Friday. Unfortunately, Casper was under flash-flood warnings when we arrived and the games were rained out. I was looking forward to giving a very amateur scouting report of some of the hot-hitting Chukars against the Ghosts. I also wore my Royals jersey with the hope to convert some people close to the Battle of Grass Creek. The only conversation I had with any fans was with one of the Ghost's Interns who told me that water had completely filled the dugouts. The next time the Chukars are in Casper I will have been a first-time-father for all of two weeks (if the due date is accurate) so I probably will have to wait till next season to catch them.

that sucks dude
i simply refuse to drive an hour to go to an o-royals game if there’s any chance of rain at all. same thing happened to me once, i think, 2 years ago when hochevar was supposed to make like his 4th start for omaha. now…screw the rain. won’t even bother.

I should get a chance to see the Chukars up here
I’m the Online Sports Editor for the Billings Gazette, and we’ve got a team in the Pioneer League, the Billings Mustangs. They’ve been terrible to start the season…remind me a lot of the Royals actually (decent pitching, terrible defense and no real offense to speak of).
The Chukars seem to be off to a good start, and I’m looking forward to hopefully going to at least one of their games when they’re in town as a fan, rather than for work.

Chukars
You weren’t the only one suffering through that rainout. I’m the beat writer in Idaho Falls and spent 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. listening to the radio to see if that game would ever get in. Not the same, but not fun.
The Casper Star-Tribune has some picture from the flooding here:
Anyway, if you’re interested in following the Chukars, check out our blog at www.chukarscorner.com. Or if you have any questions, send me an e-mail at mlycklama@postregister.com.
