bq. from what i understand, the Royals covet Escobar, but it would take more than Teahan as the primary guy in a package in return, I’d imagine.

I can't see it as a one for one

Escobar would have a ton of trade value as he’s just about as good as Teahen offensively, and of course excellent defensively at a premium position. I have to think much of this trade talk about Escobar are just speculation because supposedly Bobby Cox doesn’t like Yunel’s attitude. I can’t imagine they’re actually going to trade him. But if they do, hopefully the Braves/Royals pipeline will finally begin to pay off for us.

Maybe we could package Teahan, JoGui, and TPJ.

For Frenchy and Escobar. We’d probably have to throw in $5 million which is no big deal at the moment. Not that I want Frenchy, it’s a chance to get rid of suck and suck jr. (Although I’m not a big JoGui hater)

I really don’t see this getting done, but if it’s in the rumors, it’s been talked about. If you’re in the Cox house, you’re in big trouble.

his rep as an “excellent” defender doesn’t seemed to have reached UZR, which is clearly biased against the Braves, and doesn’t taken into account how tough fielding is in the NL.

UZR/150

2007: -2.4
2008: 1.4
2009: -10.0

Plus he hits in the NL.

I agree he’s a better hitter than Teahen (although it’s in the NL), and a better overall player, too. I’m sure Dayton thinks he’s one of the best SSes in baseball. And we really need to use brUZR, which is calculated through a complex formula of whether or not Dayton or one of his buddies scouted and signed a player, adjusting for the “difficulty” of the NL, distance in nautical milies of the player’s birthplace from Turner Field, number of opposing players punched in high school, and some other stuff.

Teahen’s looking more like an average player this season, and Teahen-for-Escobar wouldn’t be fair trade. But let’s not go nuts over Yunel. Was this his first year of arb?

I don't think he's arb eligible

until after 2010 (unless he’s a super 2)—so we would get him cheap in 2010. Last year Escobar was 2nd in the Dewan +/- system at SS—if that means anything.

Teahen + a reliever like Mahay/Cruz for Escobar seems like a pretty good deal. I’ve heard some talk that Bianchi could be part of the deal and that seems too steep. Also, Francoeur has negative trade value so maybe he gets thrown in to free up some $ for the Braves.

Bianchi?

No WAY!

Still not getting "but it's in the NL" argument

Mark Teixera hit .358 in LA (.283 in Atlanta) and had an OPS of 1.080 in LA and .900 in Atlanta.

but its the NL

or park factors, or the pitching he faced was better, etc., etc., etc.

Guess what! You can’t take an anecdotal situation and use it to prove that everything is that way.

I mean TPJ hit ok his first year here, does that mean he’ll do it every year? Obviously not. Same goes for Angel Berroa.

I'd love this

I’ve got Yunel on my fantasy team and when Cox plays him, he hits, another fantasy player bias!

He's on one of my fantasy teams, too

Although I think both of us should stay in the NL for the sake of his bat

Apparently

Buster Olney was talking to Soren on 810 and said that Cox pretty much hates Yunel and that a trade wouldn’t surprise him, get it done Dayton!

Geez

I hope it happens for the right price, but if I were Frank Wren, I wouldn’t let some near-senile old coot’s hemmoroids problems force me to trade one of my better young players
