"My right groin is really tight and very sore," he said. "This is a problem I’ve got to fix one way or the other. I can’t keep going with this. It’s on and off all of the time."
Guillen said the problem has bothered him to a varying degree for several weeks.

A player playing through injury?
Well this should end well.

Future news
July 23, 2009 – The Royals today placed outfielder Jose Guillen on the 60 day disabled list, ending his season, and possibly his career with a severe groin injury. Guillen initially injured his groin in June but attempted to play through the pain for several weeks. He left a game on July 7 vs. Detroit after some tightness in both legs, but was given clearance by trainer Nick Swartz afterwards. Guillen has just one RBI and four hits in the last two weeks and later admitted that he was unable to swing with much power due to the pain in his legs.
“I tried to swing and it was like, wow, this hurts. But Nick [Swartz] took a look and said everything looked good. I haven’t been able to get any power behind my swing for weeks, but I wanted to help the team by being out there.”
Guillen is owed $12 million in 2010, the final year of his contract.

Sam Mellinger writes
“Yes, this looks bad now. But you have to look back at the 2007-2008 offseason. The Royals needed a oufield bat and veteran leadership. Moore somehow missed out on his very smart offers to Torii Hunter and Andruw Jones, and Jose Guillen was the next best thing available. I think any GM who cares about winning would have made that deal. Sure, there are critics now, but I think everyone thought it was smart then, especially during that six-week run in May and June. Where were the critics then?”

“Jose Guillen was bad. Very bad. And the Royals overpaid. By a lot.*
*-I still remember when Jose came up with Pittsburgh and the Royals had an interleague matchup with the Pirates. I sat down next to a scout who pointed Guillen out to me. “That kid will have a month where he’ll tear the cover off the ball, then quit the rest of the year. This club will hang on to him hoping to recapture that month for the rest of his career, only to be disappointed.” If only Dayton had listened to that wise old scout.
Yes, the Royals have to overpay for “talent.” It is just one of the quirks of cheering for a small market ballclub."

"This is a problem 'I've' got to fix.." Is he going to operate on himself, again?
After witnessing the med staff this summer it’s understandable why Dr. Jose does all his own work. This is the rational side of Jose. I take back all of the bad things I said after the toenail job.
