might take your case in that instance. I don’t understand that qualifier. How many inside the park grandslams have ever been hit?

by hunter s. royal on Jul 9, 2009 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

per wikipedia

An inside-the-park grand slam is the same event but, like a grand slam, features the bases loaded for an inside-the-park home run. There have been 40 inside-the-park grand slams in Major League Baseball since 1950 and only eight since 1990 (as of 2007[update]). Honus Wagner had the most in MLB history with five.

Ok, so starting next week, during our east coast game stretch, which jersey should I wear?

Orioles at Yankees
Cards at Phillies
Padres at Nats
Royals at Orioles

I love going to Nats and O’s games here in Royals jerseys. It just makes people do a double take. I’m making my wife wear her MacDougal jersey, at least to the Nats and Royals games.

My choices:
Black and Blue Mike Sweeney
Black and Blue David DeJesus
Powder Blue Billy Butler promo jersey

That reminds me of something that annoyed me earlier today

I was sort of watching that new Sportsnation show on ESPN, and Colin Cowherd was on there. The question being asked was something like “Should Tim Wakefield start the All-Star game?” and Cowherd said no way, that he had no respect for knuckleballers because it’s nothing but a gimmick pitch that has no success in the long term. I laughed out loud at that absurd statement. The knuckler ONLY has success over the long term. Good knuckleball pitchers tend to have really long careers (e.g., Niekro and Wakefield himself) because the knuckler is so easy on the arm.

So Tim Wakefield is having a career year at the age of 42 and he’s been pitching pretty well for longer than I’ve been alive… and his main pitch is a gimmick with no chance of being useful long term. What an idiotic argument.

by Soria's Unibrow on Jul 9, 2009 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Im really torn with Cowherd...

sometimes he is right on… He is really good with the financial side of stuff, and he has pretty good feel for leagues. But as for individual players or teams he is usually off.

OT - Commissioner Blocking Royals Signing

Per Peter Gammons Blog: One small-market Central Division team that hasn’t done very well for years has essentially completed a deal with its fourth-round pick, who isn’t a college junior and thus has bargaining leverage. But the commissioner’s office doesn’t like that the agreed-upon number is above slot and has refused to sign off, so the player hasn’t gotten out there and is being kept from what the team decided is his market value.

Anyone else seen this? This has to be Dwyer, right?

We play lacrosse from a young age. We don’t really have a choice. We all play football too but often quit our senior year to concentrate on lacrosse because it’s our ticket to college. Can’t mess with our scholarship.

I almost played fordham/middlebury but chose to go to a more liberal school. One of my boys got a scholarship to play defensive back at UCLA but became an All American lacrosse player at Rutgers instead

more people die playing lacrosse than football. I believe there have been 3 D1 casulties and about five HS casulties.

They have all died by getting hit in the heart with a ball at 100 mph. Their heart basically stops and they usually cough up blood and die.

I can’t even imagine having to catch that tiny ball with a net on a stick while running full speed and trying to dodge huge guys that want to knock my teeth out. Yeah, and both of them coming at useful times, too

I can’t believe this bizarre acquisition has been good for us. Usually decent or good players come to KC and get worse, not below average players becoming better.

I went to a Sox game when I was in Boston recently

Took the ballpark tour, had a “Papelbomb” Steak Tip sandwich at the Cask ‘n Flagon before the game, sat in the ancient wooden seats, sang Sweet Caroline… I wouldn’t mind being a Red Sox fan.

it is a fun game

Willie putting it in our faces, Teahen hitting, DDJ homer, Callaspo stroking it, Cruz putting it together… “old friend” Ram Ram blowing 4 guys away while giving up a walk to Ryan Freel and a triple to Willie…
