Game 121 Open Thread - Twins (58-63) at Royals (47-73)

Minnesota Twins at Kansas City Royals, Aug 21, 2009 8:10 PM EDT

Nick Blackburn v. Luke Hochevar

Remember that awesome two week stretch Hochevar had? The one that culminated in a 13 strikeout, zero walk, performance against Texas? Since then, he's posted a 8.59 ERA in his last four starts (22.0 IP). Hochevar's been done in by an endless string of hits and six home runs allowed. Well good, now with Hochevar anything but predictable, we've got an all enigma back of the rotation.

is that kind of enigma you don’t want to turn your back on. (oh crap the back of the rotation is right behind me, isn’t it?) Awkward……..

Olivo, Anderson, Betancourt...

painful. We’re just giving away 3 innings there. So Dayton goes out and picks up new “starters” which are now our everyday 8-9 hitters. It’s as if they’re driving me away.

by Bart41 on Aug 21, 2009 7:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Check this out

Reminds me so much of Wednesday’s game, their starter was 0-4 in last six outings with 7.63 ERA in that one:

Blackburn (8-8, 4.29) has been even worse than Hochevar in recent weeks, losing three straight starts and going 0-4 with a 10.17 ERA in his last six outings.

GMDM just said on the pregame that they have limited callups in September

that they are still evaluating pitchers and hitters and they don’t want to take away innings or at-bats. Question: Which pitcher don’t you have enough data on yet?

Wonder who he is talking about on offensive side?

Pena? No reason he can’t start at catcher 3 or 4 times a week.
Anderson? He ought to be in the outfield almost every game with Teahen at 3rd.
Maier? Same thing and he’s had a lot of at-bats.
Jacobs? God help us

He can get 4, NOT 5.

Fun story

My girlfriend, a Cards fan, goes to Mizzou. She knows a kid from AZ who is a Royals fan. She asked him why he’s a Royals fan. He said he loves baseball too much not to have a team he can watch all the time. He thought he’d end up being a Cards fan here in MO, but he realized that Cards fans are all uppity jerks, and didn’t want to be a part of that, so he’s a Royals fan.

Gotta hand it to Bert

can’t play D, but has some awesome PAs

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.

After 20 sliders in a row

I'm we didn't have someone with speed to run for the Bus

why not use one of those chumps in the bullpen to run?

Plenty of blame

If we don’t have our backup 2B playing RF, the Twins don’t score that 5th run.

We’re not very good, all the way around.

I love that we pulled the guy who hit a pinch hit home run and kept a guy in the game who made a baserunning fuckup

the game is ours if we don’t put Willie on the field
