So, what do the 2009 Royals most represent?

Hindenburg?
Titanic?
Bhopal, India (Union Carbide accidental cyanide release, 1984 I believe, killed thousands of people)?
Chernobyl?

I think you're looking at it slightly wrong

Name something with only modest expectations that still failed miserably to meet those

I actually thought of that one

But weren’t there high expectations? I was also thinking Crystal Pepsi, too.

Listening To The

Postgame; the natives are restless. We need some clutch RBI guys and guys that do the little things.

would be better if

Dayton didn’t follow his speed/defense/little things talk when he was brought in with a bunch of slow, crappy defenders, who fuck up the little things.

the only reliable thing about Dayton Moore is that if he says he’s going to do something, he will do the exact opposite.

i'm not making excuses, i'm really not

i get that this team isn’t great, but goddamn this is a disaster. yes, there have been some steps forward taken by people, but the epic failures have been many-

aviles – lost year
gordon – hurt and now looks completely lost
guillen – completely fallen off a cliff
dejesus – underperformed all season, picking it up a bit now
crisp – out for year
meche – battled back issues (and maybe due to pitch counts, put that on trey) all year
davies – did not step forward
cruz – has been terrible for most of the year
soria – out for about a month

yes, butler and greinke, bannister, and butler (and at times, hochevar) have been positives, but most every other player has just seriously underperformed or been hurt all at once.

i mean, the fucking twins can get away with playing nick fucking punto, and a bunch of stiffs with 5+ ERAs but they’re winning…the White Sox can get away with having a terrible defender in RF with Jermaine Dye…why is it that things can’t just start going our way? why do the baseball gods just have to fucking slap us down so hard while buttfucking us with a rusty knife?

On reason the Twins can

get away with playing Nick Punto:

They have legit 3 and 4 hitters in their lineup everyday. You would be surprised how far that can carry what would otherwise be a bad offense.

There is nothing wrong with Butler, Gordon, DDJ, Teahen, and Callaspo offensively. The problem is that NONE of them is good enough to hit 3rd or 4th for even an avg offensive team.

I have been advocating for years now in the off seasons, that they should “put all their eggs in 1 basket” and sign a really good hitter, even if he costs 15 or 20 million.

After watching Moore make mistake after mistake identifying which $4 to $12 million guys to go after, I feel more strongly than ever about this. Sign somebody who is so good, even if Moore miscalculates the aging curve and/or the inevitable defensive decline, it STILL will be a good signing.

Just my opinion.

good point

but I think we need to find that guy, either by draft or just have a carlos pena-type fall in our lap (don’t forget, the vaunted A’s, tigers, red sox, AND yankees all gave up on him. how about a fucking pujols falling in our lap in the 13th round for a change?

i almost think we should just totally go defense and pitching and just say fuck offense, just play smallball and run other teams to death.

Did Cruz Throw

The change last year or did he pick that up here? I’ve heard he slows his arm down when he throws it, tipping off the hitters. He also seems to leave it belt high in the middle of the plate a lot. Now he seems to do that with all of his pitches.

Maybe he’s been pitching batting practice to our guys and thinks no one can hit a belt high fastball in the middle of the plate.
