Raul Ibanez Has Sure Proven Those Thumb-Tweedling Critics Wrong
In his last 52 games, Ibanez has hit .218/.288/.416. (222 PAs) In a hitter's park.
With horrible defense, of course. Although Ruben Amaro has said the only defensive stat he looks at is fielding percentage, which is actually dumber than what Dayton said, if you think about.
He's set to earn $23 million in 2010-11. He's old.
Of course, the coverage of this 50 game stretch is about one ten thousandth of his first 50 games.

Tom Tango actuallly commented on this last week
Couldn’t find Sherman’s post in Ibanez… but here’s what Tango said:
Wasn’t Ibanez close to a 3 WAR player after a third of the season? Well, he’s still a 3 WAR player, meaning he’s been performing at a replacement level.

Dan Novick has a nice post over at THT about this also
It really is amazing – the power of the small sample size.
Also, Ruben Amaro is retarded. Also, I just read that the Royals were considering extending Dayton Moore. My condolences.
Smoltz.

And yet
Mike Arbuckle can’t get hired over either of those guys!

Mike Arbuckle was hired by Dayton Moore, the same guy who brought us Jose Guillen, Kyle Farnsworth, Trey HIllman, Yuniesky Betancourt, and more.
Being hired by Dayton Moore doesn’t exactly give me confidence in his abiltiies, especially since Moore says his “top men” all liked the Yuni deal.

Not saying he's nearly worth his contract but
How many position players do we have that will hit 3 WAR this entire season?
Pecota, watch over us.

better, probably
but that’s why FanGraphs needs to get around to adjusting WAR for league differences

which I should also mention that they are aware of it
I think they just want to implement it right the first time and haven’t gotten around to it yet.

David Appelman said they would do it next year
Along with component park factors!

They're just going to use the component factors for tRA, right?
I hope so, since it would be wrong to adjust WAR with anything other than run-bsaed factors. Wouldn’t it?

because with WAR you're looking at value
whereas component park-factors, as I understand them, are more “skill” adjustments

Well, WAR isn't value either
It is a skill metric, which is why they use wOBA and FIP instead of WPA.
