the pitcher he beat tonight

Erick Cordier, is who we gave up for TPJ couple years back.

Get used to it Monty

With this defense, you’ll have to pitch like this every night.

Wow, I was really unaware Brandon Sisk was having such a terrific season. I can’t wait til he’s in KC sitting in the bullpen as our top closer, never getting in games.

Sisk

is one of names listed as being the final guy to go to the AFL (assuming Crow is the other one not yet named).

If you look closely, it really says "CentralChamps2012."

Very exciting.

Another Greinke waiting in the wings hopefully!

Maybe this does all come together in 2012.

Very exciting!

What a start. And a 12:0 K:BB ratio? aaaaa mazing.

yeah

i was listening to the game. the announcers were saying his curve was on tonight, moreso than any point in his times with the Rocks. but most of his K’s were just fastballs blown by the hitters.

really excited about him. think he has a chance to open in AA next year with a good finish and a solid spring training.

For some reason, he reminds me of Madison Bumgarner

Bumgarner is more of a pure fastball pitcher (I think)…but both pitchers have a similar tall/lanky, (sorta) overpowering approach. By the way, we are plentiful in organizational arms. Too bad we’ll never get hitting or defense under Dayton Moore, making even a .500 finish seem like a pipe dream.

by Royals Nation on Sep 1, 2009 1:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

was thinking that same comp today, no joke

bumgarner’s got a bit better fastball, but i think monty has a better breaking pitch.

just tell him to keep pitching like he did today and he won’t really have to worry about defense. :D

it doesn't matter

moore just got lucky

it was probably piccolo's pick anyway

I don't really know

maybe he is the #1 now… i just didn’t think he was at that level of perception yet… there’s duffy, moose, etc

by royalsreview on Sep 1, 2009 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Only among us, probably

Most will probably still list Moose. But I think MM has the highest upside at this point.

One of the BA guys or maybe Goldstein at Baseball Prospectus

casually mentioned that Montgomery might be the top prospect given his strong year and the very down years by Hosmer and Moustakas. It is one thing for a pitching prospect to do well in the Midwest League (where it seems like half the league posts an ERA under 3.00 and a K/9 rate above 10), but he has maintained his performance wtih the jump high A ball (with some help from the home park).

Of course, the rankings get too much emphasis, as being an organization’s number one prospect is relative — somebody has to be the number one guy even if the same player would not crack the top 5 in other organizations.

I think he should be # 1

I am also predicting that Louis Coleman will be the big surprise out of this year’s draft. He’s gonna be better than people thought. Granted, will probably be limited to a relief role – but I can see him becoming either a dominant setup guy or even a closer (if they trade Soria when they should)

Mr Glass, this is a pro sports team, not a retail store - run it like one!

I think they give Coleman a starting shot next year.

My theory was they throw him as an RP to keep the innings down after throwing 100+ at LSU this season. Next year he starts at A+ Wilmington as a starter and then moves to AA halfway through. Or if they use him as a RP, he starts in AA.

I think MM will be our #2 prospect. I still give the nod to Moustakas as he’s been playing well lately and still putting up power numbers and good overall numbers the second half.

coleman = reliever

i agree completely that he should get a shot at starting. but the indications are that he will pitch in relief, mostly because of his awkward delivery. honestly it is hard seeing him throw 180+ with that type of throwing motion.

unless i hear some things that sway otherwise (like Moose crushing it in the AFL or Crow getting some glowing reports, assuming he signs), i am probably going Monty as #1 prospect.

it's hard to argue with montgomery

considering he was a supplemental pick who exceeded expectations. I think a lot of the top rankings will be figured out in the AFL. Gutierrez is looked at as a problem child now, but he’s clearly talented. Crow, who knows. Moustakas, everyone know has that massive power, so we’ll see how his numbers changed when put in a better hitting environment.

I really had a lot of faith in Hosmer. Hopefully, he won’t have next year filled with lingering injuries (i’m not certain what portion of the time that was the case), eye problems, and premature promotions.

Unfortunately

He is going to be at Wilmington again. So another year where you can’t be sure exactly what you are seeing.

When does the tie-up with Wilmington end? It would be really nice to find somewhere more neutral.
